B MW released a new promotional video that highlights some of the technology involved with the i8’s advanced lightweight construction.
As part of their Efficient Dynamics branding, the technologies started being researched nearly ten years ago and have thus finally made it into production in the i8, allowing for one of the most dynamic and efficient cars to ever come from the Munich-based automaker. The key to this technology in simpler terms: weight reduction and savings.
For instance, the BMW i8 weighs a fairly low 3,284lbs, despite having heavy hybrid technology and battery equipment, including a 2+2 configuration. The passenger cell is reinforced with carbon fiber and plastic, which enables the i8 to weigh so little.
Providing propulsion for the i8 is a 1.5L TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder mated to an electric motor for a total output of 362hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.
