Top 7 IIHS-Rated Small SUVs

Sports Utility Vehicles have become the most purchased vehicle type in the US, taking over sedans, pickup trucks, and coupes for the top spot. Seeing as safety is vitally important, here are some of the top IIHS-Rated small SUVs.

The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) has two safety designations:

TSP, or Top Safety Pick, is awarded to vehicles that earn good ratings in five crashworthiness tests (side crashworthiness, roof strength, head restraints, moderate overlap front, and small overlap front) along with achieving a basic rating in front crash prevention test.

And TSP+, or Top Safety Pick+, is given to vehicles that meet the TSP standards, with an advanced or superior rating for the front crash prevention testing rather than a basic rating.
