The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS is a Glimpse of the Future

While there was plenty of new about traditional vehicles — see the Land Rover Defender — during the Frankfurt Motor Show, the biggest news was all about electric vehicles. And of all the green machines on display, none of them came close to garnering the attention that the striking Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS did. And for good reason — just look at this baby!

Unfortunately, it’s just a concept right now, but the folks at Mercedes did provide some info on what makes it tick, or since this is an electric car, whirl. First off, it’s packing a 100 kWh battery which gives it a range of about 435 miles. The electric motors are good for 469 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque, which means the Vision EQS will make the sprint to 60 in 4.5 seconds, and hit a top speed of 124 mph.

So the beauty here is more than skin deep.

In a world that’s increasingly concerned about sustainability and emissions, the Vision EQS is an exciting statement. Here’s the official word from Mercedes about what the company is trying to achieve with it:

The Vision EQS, a milestone on the way to the future of Mercedes-Benz. At the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Mercedes-Benz will address the challenges of the future with a focus on sustainability, in relation to it becoming a central component of the brand philosophy, and a major aspect of our corporate strategy.

The show car is able to meet these aspirations today while providing a new outlook for future large, electric luxury sedans, and illustrating a vision of purpose-built electro-design. With the Vision EQS, Mercedes-Benz is making a clear statement for the continued future of high- quality vehicles and self-determined driving. Supreme craftsmanship, emotive design, luxurious materials and individual driving pleasure will continue to be sought after. Now and in the future, luxury above all stands for personal freedom.

Yup, it’s clear that while the future is going to be green and clean, that doesn’t mean we’re going to be forced to drive around in the automotive equivalent of a penalty box. Far from it, in fact.

While Vision EQS isn’t available at your local AutoNation-affiliated Mercedes-Benz dealer, it’s an exciting preview of what the next-generation of luxurious German sedans will offer in respect to looks and performance. Look to see vehicles influenced by to arrive soon.
