The Battle of Mid-size Luxury Sedans

The mid-size luxury sedan segment is heating up and may have the most exciting offerings we have seen in quite some time. While there are some legends in the segment including the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 3 Series, and the Lexus GS, the segment is heating up with newcomers like the Hyundai Genesis (now known as the Genesis G80), the upcoming all-new Lincoln Continental and Volvo S90 along with the recently upgraded Cadillac CTS.

With that in mind, we decided to take a look at the offerings and break them down into an easier list for you to pick from. We categorized the list in three different segments including legends, evolutions and newcomers to make it easier to differentiate the offerings. Take a look at these sophisticated sedans and then drop by your local AutoNation dealership to see one in action.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class: The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is one of the most luxurious and comfortable luxury mid-size sedans on the market. While it may not be sporty, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers untouchable ride, luxury, style, and comfort. Prices start at $52,650*.

BMW 5-Series: What was once known as one of the sportiest mid-size luxury sedans, the BMW 5-Series has become a more tamed and comfortable car. Totally not a bad thing as consumers are lining up to buy one. Prices start at $52,000*.

Audi A6: The Audi A6 seems to be the perfect balance between the E-Class and the 5-Series by offering engaging driving dynamics and a very technologically advanced and nicely designed interior. Price start at $46,200*.

Lexus GS: The Lexus GS recently underwent a whole redesign with a stylish new exterior and a very handsome interior. What was once a mild luxury sedan is now stylish and sporty. Prices start $45,615*.

Hyundai Genesis (Genesis G80): The Hyundai Genesis is no longer a Hyundai vehicle as the brand has split into its own under the Genesis name. The model will eventually adopt the Genesis G80 name but the current Hyundai Genesis is still one of the least expensive models in the luxury mid-size segment with a starting price tag of $38,750*. Don’t let the price tag fool you as the Hyundai Genesis offers exceptional luxury and ride quality.

Acura RLX: The Acura RLX offers tons of technology options and is one of the most comfortable and sporty luxury sedans on our list. Prices start at $54,450*.

Jaguar XF: The Jaguar XF is one of the most stylish looking luxury sedans on the market. The interior of the Jaguar XF is also one of the most memorable ones we’ve seen in the segment thanks to its British charm. Prices start at $47,450*.

Cadillac CTS: The Cadillac CTS was recently revamped to move more upmarket and compete with all the other mid-size luxury sedans. With that in mind, the Cadillac CTS has improved itself in many ways including design, luxury, and performance. Prices start at $45,560*.

Infiniti Q70: The Infiniti Q70 has been continuously upgraded for the past couple of years and Infiniti has now found the perfect balance between sport, luxury, and design to offer an outstanding luxury sedan. Price start at $49,850*

Volvo S90: One of the most exciting newcomers to the segment is the Volvo S90. Its stellar exterior design and upgraded Volvo signature interior make this one of the most exciting cars to look forward to this year. Prices start at $60,505*

2017 Lincoln Continental

Lincoln Continental: The reason the new Lincoln Continental ends up in the new-comers list is because this is not the Lincoln Continental we used to know and love. The Lincoln Continental has been completely reinvented to compete with other mid-size luxury sedans and we believe the brand has a home run on their hands! Prices start at $44,560*.
