From its looks, you could be forgiven for thinking that the Lexus GX is another luxurious soft-roader that’s tuned more for the Whole Foods parking lot than any challenging terrain. And while it’ll happily handle standard suburban duties, since it’s built on the same platform as Toyota’s legendary Land Cruiser, it’s also unafraid to continue when the going gets rough.
So for 2020 Lexus has decided to capitalize on that cred by offering an off-road package, which given the already-stout mechanical bits, comes largely in the form of electronic aids specialized.
To make the best use of the GX’s 301-horsepower V8 and four-wheel drive system, the package delivers settings for rocky sections, mud, and snow, all which take the guess work out of navigating challenging terrain. Plus, so you can stay abreast of everything you’re driving over, the package also includes a suite of cameras so you can get eyes on the front, side, and bottom of the vehicle. While we don’t expect that many buyers will head to Moab with their GX, there’s a certain comfort in knowing you very well could.
