The 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit ended weeks ago, but the buzz surrounding some of the vehicles shown at this year’s show is still with us. Off-roaders were a big hit this year, with many new variants of popular trucks and SUVs. Here are our top choices for NAIAS Off-Roading machines!
Nissan Titan Warrior Concept
The Nissan TITAN is already a formidable full-size pickup truck with extreme capabilities. At the 2016 Detroit NAIAS, Nissan unveiled the TITAN Warrior Concept, based off the customized TITAN that two US military veterans took on expedition through Alaska and the heritage that Nissan has with off-roading events such as the Paris-Dakar Rally treks and the Baja adventures.
It boasts a nearly three-inch lift, four 37-inch tall off-road tires on custom 18×9.5-inch aluminum allow wheels, a 3-inch wider body than the original Nissan TITAN XD, a 5.0L V8 Cummings Turbo Diesel engine, and more! On the inside, you’ll find a fit and finish more likely seen in a high-end GTR, than the TITAN Pickup truck. Carbon-colored seat fabric is trimmed with orange accents, while the interior surfaces get the carbon fiber and polished chrome treatment.
Even though the Nissan TITAN Warrior is only a concept, you can test drive the 2016 Nissan TITAN XD today at your local AutoNation Nissan Dealerships, today!
VW Tiguan GTE Active Concept
Hybrid technology is making its way into unexpected places, such as the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) market. At the 2016 NAIAS, Volkswagen introduced a hybrid prototype based off its popular SUV, called the Tiguan GTE Active Concept. It can run for 20 miles on battery power, alone, and offers a plug-in hybrid system capable of 148-horsepower between a gas-powered engine and two electric motors.
In terms of off-road capability, the Tiguan GTE Active Concept features VW’s 4-wheel drive system, called 4MTION Active Control. This system will ensure traction is kept by pulling power back from slipping wheels until they get grip again, and keeping grip at all wheels by monitoring power prior to slippage.
While you can’t purchase a GTE Tiguan, you can test drive the 2016 Tiguan at any local AutoNation Volkswagen Dealership today!
Ford F-150 Raptor Supercrew
With the ever popular lineup of Ford’s legendary F-150 series truck continually growing and changing to fit individual enthusiast and driver needs, it was only a matter of time until the Raptor grew up.
And by that we mean it got more awesome.
The all-new Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew offers more room for passengers and access through two rear-doors. It’s more agile due to more advanced powertrain and suspension, and has improved performance and traction, including six preset modes for driving: Normal, Street, Weather, Mud/Sand, Baja (high speed desert), and Rock (low-speed crawl).
