2019 INFINITI Q60 Red Sport 400 Exterior
When it comes to invoking emotions, few luxury sport coupes do it as well as the 2019 INFINITI Q60, with its dynamic character lines, seductive curves, and performance accents.
The 2019 Q60 is lower and wider than previous generations, and together with signature INFINITI design elements — double-arch grille, crescent-shaped C-pillars, tight wheel gaps — blend power and elegance into a mature yet unapologetically bold package.
A sculpted hood and large front vents not only contribute to the Q60’s phenomenal silhouette, but also pierces the air to reduce drag and lift. On the front fenders, functional vents help evacuate hot air from the engine bay for better cooling and aerodynamics.
Our test model came painted in an eye-catching Iridium Blue paired with 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels and red sport brake calipers. And an available carbon fiber package added an extra bit of flair by replacing body-colored elements with this exposed weave pattern on the rear decklid spoiler, exterior mirror covers, fog lamp finishers, and fender vents.
Other exterior highlights include touch-sensitive door handles for automatic unlocking, an active grille shutter to maximize cooling and aerodynamics, narrow side mirrors, and flexible stop position doors that are designed to hold open in nearly any position while on level surfaces.
The Q60’s bold styling choices and wide, powerful stance make it one of our favorite rides in the sports coupe category. It’s an elegant and mature offering for those who’ve grown alongside INFINITI’s Q series over the years.
2019 INFINITI Q60 Red Sport 400 Interior
More private lounge than “car interior,” the Q60 pampers its passengers with plush surfaces and premium design materials. Every single element that you might come in contact with feels like it’s been crafted with purpose, and contributes to the uninterrupted luxury experience offered by the 2+2 cabin.
The sport bucket seats really stood out to us because of how simultaneously comfortable and supportive they are. INFINITI’s “spinal support seats” have been ergonomically designed to minimize pressure on back muscles while offering enhanced thigh, lumbar, and lateral support. Each passenger’s weight is more evenly distributed along the entirety of the seat to delay the onset of fatigue. This seemingly small detail made a world of difference on our long commute, allowing us to arrive at work feeling just as fresh as when we left the house.
In addition to the semi-aniline leather seats, our Red Sport 400 test model featured optional silver carbon-fiber highlights that really upped the wow-factor of our Monaco Red interior. At night, adjustable accent lighting sets the mood as you enjoy tunes from the standard 13-speaker Bose Performance Series surround sound system.
For those who love to keep an eye on multiple avenues of information, the standard INFINITI InTouch system dual touch-screen displays, with the upper 8-inch screen dedicated to navigation and global system menus, while the lower 7-inch monitor provides easy access to everything else. Bluetooth phone integration, satellite radio, connected apps, climate control, and more are available at your fingertips. These preferences can be saved to user profiles thanks to the upgraded INFINITI InTuition, allowing further personalization of your experience inside the Q60. And depending on which Intelligent Key is being used, the driver’s seat, steering column and outside mirrors will automatically return to their presets for the designated driver.
Overall, the inside of the 2019 Q60 Red Sport 400 feels like a bespoke outfit that’s been designed just for us, featuring only the finest craftsmanship and materials.
2019 INFINITI Q60 Red Sport 400 Performance
Supporting the Q60 Red Sport 400’s muscular demeanor is an incredible 400-horsepower twin-turbocharged V6 engine (hence the model name) along with an upgraded 7-speed automatic transmission. This advanced powertrain is capable of revving to 7,000 RPM, and delivers its peak 350 lb-ft of torque from 1,600-5,200 RPM — basically, the power comes on early and never lets up!
To make sure this mountain of power is usable on a daily basis, a lot of innovation and thoughtful engineering has gone into making this 3.0-liter VR engine both efficient and smooth. Lightweight aluminum construction, special coatings, and an integrated exhaust manifold enhances cooling and also reduces cold start emissions.
In addition to increased horsepower, our Red Sport 400 model features a turbine speed sensor that allows the twin-turbo system to operate at much higher rpms and boost pressure to deliver immediate acceleration. An intercooler system further enhances efficiency by rapidly lowering intake air temperatures, which results in reduced turbo lag and better throttle response.
Of course, higher power means higher stress to the transmission, so INFINITI has upgraded internal components and reprogrammed shift logic to manage the demanding output. The Q60’s Adaptive Shift Control uses sensors to detect the vehicle’s current needs, and automatically chooses a more aggressive shift pattern in situations of spirited driving, steep hills, or sharp turns. Honestly, the programming is smarter and faster than anything we could achieve with a manual transmission. While paddle shifters are available for those wanting more control, the Q60 was in its best form in automatic mode.
Drive Mode Selector offers further customization with six profiles that adjust various vehicle dynamics like steering weight, suspension damping, shift points, and traction control. Our test model came equipped with the all-wheel drive (AWD) driveline option, and together with the standard Dynamic Digital Suspension, delivered unbelievable grip, agility, and comfort. The AWD system defaults to rear-wheel drive for the ultimate sports car experience, and can send up to 50% of torque to the front wheels in low traction situations.
While many luxury sport coupes tend to favor one side of the spectrum — either luxury or performance — the 2019 Q60 manages to strike a perfect balance, offering comfort for long commutes and agility for those twisting canyon roads all in one elegant package.
Fuel economy for the 2019 INFINITI Q60 Red Sport 400 is an EPA estimated 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway**.
2019 INFINITI Q60 Red Sport 400 Safety
The standard safety offerings of the 2019 Q60 include some of today’s most advanced predictive technologies, like forward collision warning, forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, brake assist, and vehicle dynamic control, to name a few.
Our test model also came with the available ProAssist Package, which adds blind spot warning, backup collision intervention, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear sonar system, and rain-sensing wipers.
All of these features come together to not only give excellent awareness of our surroundings, but also peace of mind as we navigate unfriendly traffic and road conditions.
