The Raptor gets the lion’s share of the coverage when it comes to Blue Ovals that are ready to tackle trails. But if you’re looking for something with a massive V8 that will also stay tough when the going gets rough, the Ford Super Duty Tremor might be right up your alley.
Under the hood, you can choose between a 7.3-liter gas mill, or a 6.7-liter diesel. At this point, we don’t have exact power figures for either engine, but since the current diesel is capable of a Herculean 935 lb-ft of torque, we expect that when the official figures do come down the pipe, they’ll be worth the wait.
And while you’re obviously looking for serious amounts of twist, there are a host of other improvements to the Super Duty Tremor that make it a proper beast off road.
The wheels are matte-black 18-inch units, and come standard with Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac rubber. The official press release notes that at 35-inches in diameter, they’re the largest available in the segment, but that’s only the beginning. There’s also a two-inch lift, which means the rig has 10.8 inches of ground clearance, and can ford water up to 33 inches deep.
Additionally, the rear swap bar has also been tuned to translate less bumps from rough terrain into the cabin, so passengers won’t look like Weeble Wobbles during an earthquake when you’re underway. As you’d expect, there are also rock-rail style running boards, and under-body skid plates, so drivers only tear up the trail, not their trucks.
Since modern off-roading is about brain and well as brawn, drivers will also be able to select traction settings designed for fuel economy, sand and mud, ice, and rock crawling, along with Trail Control, which is essentially a low-speed off-road cruise control.
With all those beefy bits, the Ford Super Duty Tremor will be ready to dive into the mud right out of the showroom, and it’s a great addition to a 4×4 lineup which already includes heavyweights like the all-new Ranger, the iconic F-150, and the desert-pounding Raptor.
The Tremor package will be available for the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trims of the Super Duty later this year. So watch the below, and if you like what you see, head to your local AutoNation Ford dealer today to arrange a test drive today!
