Crazy Car Show Countdown: SEMA 2019 is Coming Up Fast!

Right now, gearheads from coast to coast are enjoying top down cruises, runs to the local swimming hole, and calorie-packed cookouts. It’s summertime, after all, and that’s what this season is all about.

But while we’re happily grilling hot dogs and perfecting our cannon balls, there’s another breed of enthusiast that’s feeling the heat in a whole different way — because SEMA 2019 is right around the corner. For the uninitiated, SEMA stands for the Specialty Equipment Market Association. It’s a trade group comprised of companies which manufacturer all the aftermarket bits that support the visions of custom car builders everywhere.

For the uninitiated, SEMA stands for the Specialty Equipment Market Association. It’s a trade group comprised of companies which manufacturer all the aftermarket bits that support the visions of custom car builders everywhere. From turbochargers, to suspension components, to chrome bits, to reproduction pieces for classics, the SEMA network is a laundry list of the industry’s most legendary players.

So as you can imagine, its annual car show is an automotive carnival that’s unlike anything else in the world.

For one week every year, SEMA takes over the Las Vegas Convention center, and vendors from far and wide come to display their latest and greatest creations. Even the area outside the Convention Center is enough to put most car shows to shame, and AutoNation Drive is going to on hand to deliver coverage of this legendary event, so you won’t miss a beat. Of course, we’re going to part of the action too, as the wizards over at Flat 12 Gallery are currently working their magic on Auto Gear’s SEMA car.

We’ll have more on that later, as all the details are currently top secret. But last year, they delivered awesome takes on both a Toyota 4Runner and Mercedes-Benz C300 coupe.

At this point, we’re not sure exactly what OEM companies like Honda, Toyota, Chevy, FCA, or Ford will be bringing to the show. But over the next couple of weeks, we’re sure to start seeing some teasers and hints about what kind of wild iron they’ll have on hand.

Spoiler alert: Toyota is going to be showing off the Supra, and Chevy will be packing some killer versions of the 2020 Corvette Stingray. We can also expect to the concepts from the Easter Jeep Safari on the floor will be there, as these builds are always a hit with attendees and the press.

SEMA 2019 kicks off Tuesday, November 5th, and runs through Friday, November 8th. Stay tuned for more news about this year’s show!
