If you love the looks the LC 500, but want to experience the thrills of driving a world-class grand tourer with the wind in your hair, you’re in luck. Because a Lexus LC convertible is coming.
We’ve know a LC convertible has been in the cards since the we saw the concept at the Detroit Auto Show back in January. But the fact that Lexus chose to bring a camouflaged prototype to the Goodwood Festival of Speed means its debut is closer than we think — possibly before the end of the year. If we had to guess, we’d say the powertrains will be the same as those offered for the LC, meaning buyers will get to choose between a 354-horsepower hybrid option, or the more robust 5.0-liter V8, which is packing 471-horsepower.
If you’re looking for more power, you’ll likely have to wait for the rumored F version. Though we’d expect most of the performance upgrades to focus on reduced weight, and stiffer suspension bits, we also think it’s possible that model will come packing significantly more poke.
Our writers have been fortunate enough to drive the current LC 500 on a few occasions, and they’ve all thoroughly enjoyed their time behind the wheel. Here’s how Jeffrey N. Ross summed up his feelings on Lexus’ halo car:
The Lexus LC 500 looks like a mix of a concept car and something from a futuristic sci-fi movie, and it gets attention wherever it goes. It might not be as fast as a Nissan GT-R, or offer as many varieties as a Porsche 911, but it is a sexy, sporty and luxurious coupe that hits all the right notes for a grand touring car. The LC also builds on Lexus’ growing history of sport coupes offering more performance and luxury focus than the RC and SC, while being far more attainable than the LFA supercar.
If that has your curiosity piqued, make sure to read his full review, as Jeffrey has plenty more to say about his week with the LC 500.
There’s no word available on exactly when we see the Lexus LC Convertible without camouflage, or when it will arrive at your local AutoNation-affiliated Lexus dealer. But fortunately, you don’t have to wait to check out the hard top, so if you’d like to see just how stunning this grand tourer is in person, pay them a visit today!
