As every gearhead knows, the mid-engine Corvette will be revealed later this month. When the wrap finally comes off, it will begin an exciting new era for the iconic American sports car.
For many enthusiasts, the concept of a mid-engine Corvette has been something that’s existed for a long as they’ve been alive, as it was something Zora Arkus-Duntov — the Father of the Corvette — always championed. And we think there’s a recent patent filing suggests the top-spec model, that’s rumored to have as much as 1000 horsepower, will bear his name.
At this point, we’re still a ways out from getting the nitty-gritty details about the C8, but what a better way to celebrate July 4th than listening to meaty roar of the Corvette’s new powerplant?
The video below was put together by YouTuber Chris Brian, and features over four minutes of the mid-engine Corvette on the street and the track. Spoiler alert: It sounds like a total beast.
While the current model has already proven potent competition for supercars costing far more, our friends at Motor Authority recently reported that the Corvette team was using high-end hardware like the Ferrari 458 Italia, Audi R8, and Acura NSX as benchmarks. It should go without saying, that we absolutely can’t wait to see how their new baby performs against the best the world has to offer.
We’ll be on site for the reveal of the long-awaited mid-engine Corvette July 18th, in Orange County, California. So we’ll have plenty more details after the wraps come off. And if you’re looking to get your hands on the next-generation of America’s Sports Car, head to your local AutoNation Chevy dealer to see if you can get on the list to order one.
Because if this launch goes the way the one for the seventh-generation did, initial allocations are going to be tight!
