When you think of Cadillac, there are about three models that come to mind — Escalade, CTS, and ATS. It is very rare for people to bring up the XTS whenever Cadillac is named and until recently, we felt the same way.
The Cadillac XTS originally made its debut in 2012 as a replacement to the STS and DTS and immediately became the brand’s go-to model for fleet services. If you go to any major city in the United States and order an Uber Black, a Cadillac XTS is most likely to pull up. So how do you break the stereotype of the XTS being a fleet car? How do you go out and entice new car shoppers to the XTS? Well, for one, you throw in a 410 horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine. With that in mind, we were rather thrilled to learn that we would get to spend some time with the all-new 2018 Cadillac XTS Platinum V Sport. We went into a week-long affair with the 2018 XTS V Sport with one question in mind – would we buy one? Let’s find out.
2018 Cadillac XTS V Sport Exterior
When it comes to the XTS, we feel many car shoppers face an internal debate of whether they should go for the XTS or the more popular CTS. Both are similarly priced and aren’t too far off from each other when it comes exterior dimensions.
The 2018 Cadillac XTS sits on a wheelbase that measures 111.7-inches while the CTS sits on a wheelbase that measures 114.6-inches. The overall length for the XTS comes in at 200.9-inches while the CTS has an overall length of 195.5-inches. Both stand at a width of 72-inches. So what makes the XTS more appealing than the CTS?
In our opinion, while the CTS aims to target the more edgy car buyer that admires an exterior design that features sharp corners and an aggressive stance, the XTS targets the older crowd that desire a classier look. The 2018 Cadillac XTS features rounded corners and an overall smooth and luxurious design language. Unlike the Cadillac CTS and its masculine exterior design, the XTS is more formal and elegant.
For the 2018 model year, the XTS features design cues from Caddy’s flagship model, the CT6. The exterior is highlighted by a new front fascia that features a sleek new grille, all-new LED headlamps and taillights, and new 19-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels.
2018 Cadillac XTS V Sport Interior
When you take a seat inside the 2018 Cadillac XTS, you’re welcomed by an extremely luxurious cabin that is covered in leather and features attractive contrast stitching. Our test model, the 2018 Cadillac XTS Platinum V Sport came with a full leather-wrapped interior with microfiber suede headliner, wood trim on the steering wheel, console, center stack, instrument panel and door panels. It is really everything and more you could demand from a vehicle in this class.
Tech wise, our 2018 Cadillac XTS Platinum V Sport came loaded with everything you could probably imagine. Some standout features include a fourteen-speaker Bose studio sound system, tri-zone climate control, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats with massage functionality, heated rear seats, a heads-up display, a fully customizable 12.3-inch gauge cluster, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and an 8-inch LCD touchscreen that houses the new Cadillac CUE infotainment system. The new CUE system is definitely the best one yet as it is faster, easier to use, and less bulky. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and OnStar 4G LTE with WiFi are all part of the game.
Legroom wise, the 2018 Cadillac XTS Platinum V Sport offers a total of 42.1-inches for front-row passengers and 40-inches of legroom for rear passengers. Cargo volume comes in at a massive 18 cubic feet.
Overall, the cabin of the 2018 Cadillac XTS Platinum V Sport is an astounding place to be. There is not one aspect that made us feel that Cadillac could improve on.
2018 Cadillac XTS V Sport Performance
The 2018 Cadillac XTS is only available with two powertrains including the base 304 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine. Our 2018 Cadillac XTS Platinum V Sport is powered by the 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 unit that produces a total of 410 horsepower with a peak torque of 369 lb-ft. Mated to a six-speed transmission and Cadillac’s Magnetic Ride Control suspension, the XTS V Sport offers some exhilarating performance. Of course, by exhilarating we mean a 0 to 60 mph time of just 6 seconds flat and stopping power that comes from Brembo brakes.
All that performance is kept in check thanks to an all-wheel-drive system that helps you hug the road even during adverse weather conditions.
Fuel economy wise, the 2018 Cadillac XTS Platinum V Sport averages an EPA-rated 16/23 mpg* (city/highway).
