BMW has just dropped a teaser for its new Vision iNext Electric SUV concept, and while we don’t have the full picture — this is a teaser, after all — we like what we see. The most trick bit is the glowing twin-kidney grille, which immediately identifies the Vision iNext as a BMW, and also makes it look like it rolled off the set of Blade Runner.
While there are no guarantees when it comes to details that’ll carry over from concept to production, we’re going to keep our fingers crossed it makes the jump — it’s just too cool.
Of course, when it comes to that bringing futuristic concepts to market, you don’t have to look any further than the i8 for proof that BMW’s recent track record is pretty stellar. Here’s what our own Derek Shiekhi had to say when he drove it last year:
It’s been a long time since we first started driving. We test new cars almost every week of the year. That doesn’t change the fact that we will always fondly remember the 2017 BMW i8. Its design was stunning, its cabin was a special place to be, and its performance was engaging. The automaker calls the i8 ‘no ordinary sports car.’ We call it ‘unforgettable.’
There won’t be any details on the electric SUV until the full reveal on September 9th, but we expect it to have a range of about 400 miles and a Level 3 self-driving capability, which is two steps shy of fully autonomous. While it’s important to remember that this is just a concept, we don’t think it’ll be too long before you’ll see something similar in the showroom of your local AutoNation-affiliated BMW dealer. More news on the Vision iNext Electric SUV concept when we have it.
