Other than space and ride height, all-wheel drive has long been a reason that consumers opt for a crossover. And while Nissan’s venerable mid-size sedan has been a popular choice for decades, until this year, there was no AWD Altima.
Now, in a climate where consumers are flocking to crossovers, adding power to all four corners is a good move. So to promote the addition of the AWD Altima to the lineup, Nissan released a video of Altima that’s been transformed from a practical daily into a burly snow beast that’s ready for anything.
Obviously, an Altima riding on tracks won’t be available from the factory — as cool as that would be. But 19-inch wheels will be available, along with the optional Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of technology, which includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, Lane Departure Warning, radar-based Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and High Beam Assist. Power will come from an updated 2.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 188 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque, and a newly-refined CVT will be the sole transmission option.
Every version of the Altima also comes with a host of handy standard features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Key-Activated Remote Start. That last feature is sure to be a selling point for folks who appreciate the surefooted nature of AWD vehicles, and like getting into a warm car in the morning.
Watch the video below for some fun footage of the tracked Altima playing in the snow, and if you’re looking for something that’ll actually fit in your garage, head to your local AutoNation Nissan dealer to check out the new AWD Altima!
