The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is the ultimate, “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it” automotive event. Seriously, Pebble Beach makes Barrett Jackson look like a public auction, and it’s the perfect place for automakers to show off their latest and greatest to a crowd that springs for seven-figure supercars like most people do tacos on Tuesday.
So it’s no wonder Audi will be revealing its new PB18 e-tron there later this month. And while we don’t have any specs just yet, rest assured, it’s going to be a beast.
The name stands for Pebble Beach 2018, and in the press release announcing the reveal, Audi says the PB18 e-tron “recalls the LeMans-series winner Audi R18 e-tron, whose technology inspired the solutions for various details.” While we don’t expect this machine to wind up in the showroom of your local Audi-affiliated AutoNation dealer, it likely foreshadows what we’ll see in the replacement for the company’s R8 supercar, so it’s not all design exercise.
We’ve recently gotten to test a slew of 2018 Audi product — including the A4 sedan, TT RS Coupe, and RS 5 Coupe, which our resident hot shoe Mike Musto rightly called “a 440-horsepower, tarmac-gobbling open road weapon.” All of them were fantastic, well-mannered drivers’ cars, but since the PB18 has plenty of the champion Le Mans prototype’s DNA, its capabilities should be truly next level.
For now, just drool over this dead-sexy teaser shot — we’ll post more info when we have it.
