We’ve been big fans of the Toyota 86 — and its corporate cousin, the Subaru BRZ — since it was called the Scion FR-S. While we’d be remiss if we didn’t think it could use a touch more power, it’s an awesome. affordable driver’s car, and it looks the business.
As far as updates go, Toyota has largely kept to the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” strategy, and we’re basically fine with that, especially since a new version is in the works. But the company has kept things interesting by offering some interesting special editions, and we think the gorgeous green Hakone Edition is our favorite one yet.
The concept of the small, affordable sports car was something the British pioneered, and the Hakone Edition gives jolly old England a nod, by way of the green paint and tan interior, which was a popular combo for the roadsters of yore. And we happen to think the 17-inch bronze wheels set off green sheet metal beautifully.
Even if, for some wild reason, this doesn’t float your boat, there are obviously plenty of other colors available, and regardless of what one you choose, the Toyota 86 will deliver the driving dynamics which have made it a modern legend. Head here to read our full review of this fantastic sports car.
At press time, Toyota hasn’t released how many examples of the 2020 Toyota 86 Hakone Edition will be available come the fall. But if you’re looking to put one in your garage? It wouldn’t hurt to talk to your local AutoNation Toyota dealer about securing one now — these are sure to be hot sellers.
