Sure, the horsepower figures for virtually every vehicle have gone through the roof of late. But make no mistake: a MINI with 300 horsepower is a big deal. And that’s exactly what the 2020 MINI John Cooper Works GP will deliver.
So if you’ve been looking for a hot hatch, but weren’t moved by the Honda Civic Type R or the Ford Focus RS, this petite, powerful little Brit could be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
Aside from the power figure, and the fact that it’ll come from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder, MINI didn’t confirm much about the GP. But as the teaser photos suggest, there will be plenty of aggressive exterior touches, and the rear seat will likely be sacrificed for weight savings. And that’s OK will us.
At this point, the only thing we don’t like about the 2020 MINI John Cooper Works GP is how limited production will be. According to the company, only 3,000 of these pocket rockets will be produced.
Of course, if you want to score your very own example of the most powerful MINI ever available from the factory, head over to your local AutoNation MINI dealer pronto. Because these cars will be spoken for before they even hit the showroom.
We’ll have more info after the car makes its official debut the New York Auto Show in April, so stay tuned!
