When you think of the luxury sports coupe segment, the models that naturally come to mind are competitors like Audi’s A5/S5/RS5 lineup, BMW’s 4-Series lineup, and Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class Coupe models. And along with those, car shoppers have many other options, including the Cadillac ATS Coupe, Lexus RC, and this, the Infiniti Q60.
The model I tested here is the fastest of the Q60s, the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 AWD. Yup, that’s exactly what you have to say when someone asks you “Hey what car is that?”
Now, the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 AWD takes on the leaders of this segment, just before you hop into the ultimate high-performance models like the Audi RS5, BMW M4, and the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe. The Infiniti Q60 Red Sport is aimed at the Audi S5, BMW 440i, and the Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe.
2019 INFINITI Q60 Red Sport Exterior
I absolutely love the design of the Infiniti Q60. I mean just look at this thing. It’s sleek, aggressive, and elegant from every angle. Infiniti has done an outstanding job to their recent exterior design language, and in my opinion, the Q60 is the ultimate representation of that. Staying true to its concept design, the Infiniti Q60 also does a great job of bringing along signature brand design cues to the future, including the double-arch grille and the crescent-shaped C-pillars.
So what makes Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 cooler to look at? To tell the faster Q60 apart from the slower ones, Infiniti added dual exhaust tips, red brake calipers, and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels wrapped in summer performance tires. While you won’t see Red Sport 400 badging anywhere, you will notice that the faster Q60 does have Q60 S badging on the back and S 3.0t on the side.
There are seven exterior color options, and the most expensive is the one you see here called Dynamic Sunstone Red for $800. You can beef up the looks with a $2,280 Carbon Fiber Package that adds carbon fiber trim to the side mirror housings, fender vents, fog lamps, and spoiler.
2019 INFINITI Q60 Red Sport Interior
While the overall interior on the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 is very nice, the infotainment system could use an update. I find it really weird that the two displays are worlds apart when it comes to the quality of the screens. The upper screen is somewhat bland, while the lower screen is glossy and sleek.
Also, there is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, which is an oversight in my book, and I feel Infiniti has the capability to do much cooler things. That being said, it’s not all bad news when it comes to the interior. The 2019 Q60 Red Sport 400 has a really nice 13-speaker Bose sound system and a wide range of driver assist tech.
You also have some of the most comfortable seats in the segment, and there is a good use of high-quality materials throughout the cabin.
2019 INFINITI Q60 Red Sport Performance
The Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 making 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, which is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. From zero, 60 mph arrives in just 4.4 seconds, and keep your foot buried, and you’ll hit a top speed of 155 mph. Fuel economy wise, you’re looking at 19 city, and 26 mpg highway*.
Obviously, I like a luxury sports coupe to be comfortable on a long drive, and I like the suspension and steering to tighten up when it’s in a sport mode. The 2019 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 does a great job of balancing both. However, that’s not the main focus of the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 when drive quality is discussed. Instead, there’s a lot of focus on the Direct Adaptive Steering – or the drive-by-wire system.
My test model didn’t come with the Direct Adaptive Steering system as it is optional, but I’ve experienced the tech before, and in my opinion, unless you’re really pushing the car, you won’t feel that much of a difference. Nonetheless, it is a bit of an awkward steering response, and you do feel slightly less connected to the road.
That said, I really enjoyed my the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport, and it stands toe to toe with rivals in terms of acceleration and handling. The twin-turbo V6 is extremely responsive in Sport and Sport+ mode, though there’s some lag when you’re cruising in Standard mode.
My favorite part? The exhaust continuously provides a beefy rumble throughout the cabin no matter what drive mode you’re in. It’s a constant acoustic reminder of that you’re driving something special.
2019 INFINITI Q60 Red Sport Overall
Overall, the 2019 INFINITI Q60 Red Sport is an excellent contender in the luxury sports coupe segment.
