With everyone getting out of the sedan business to concentrate on crossovers, it’s good to see that Infiniti is still producing a nicely optioned and powerful sports sedan that delivers the goods. The 2019 Q50 Red Sport 400 all-wheel drive (a long name we know) is traditional in its overall feel, but packs in 400bhp making it one of the quickest in the segment with a zero-to-60 time of just 4.5 seconds. And with a nicely optioned and luxurious interior, it’s also an absolute pleasure to live with on a day-to-day basis.

2019 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 AWD Exterior

With great proportions and organic lines, the Q50 RS400 is a nice sedan that doesn’t push too hard to convince consumers it’s something it’s not. This is not a “look at me” type of vehicle, but instead, a means of transport that tells the world you’re a little bit more confident than the rest of the pack.

The aerodynamic shape combines a mesh grille with black chrome, projector beam headlamps and an aggressive lower front fascia with integrated LED and auxiliary driving lights. The wheels are 19-inch aluminum alloys finished in gunmetal gray and wearing 245/40-series rubber at all four corners. Outback a short rear deck lid with a carbon fiber lip spoiler and machine-gun tipped dual exhaust ports help to round out a sporty yet elegant package.

2019 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 AWD Interior

Plush and comfortable, the cabin of the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport RS400 cradles both drivers and passengers alike with a luxurious feel and a host of technical amenities. Heated leather seating surfaces come with crosshatch stitching along with a heated thick-rimmed steering wheel that is perfect for long road trips. The door panels are a mix of leather, soft-touch plastics, and nicely crafted aluminum speaker grilles. Our tester came complete with the optional Sensory Package that supplies the interior with features like a BOSE 16-speaker audio system, power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, an advanced climate control system and enhanced ambient lighting. There are also multiple power outlets for both conventional and USB devices. Infiniti InTouch with navigation and voice recognition combines dual display screens (8-inch upper / 7-inch lower) that provide touchscreen access to audio, climate, Bluetooth hands-free calling and vehicle systems controls.

The dash is a combination of analog gauges with a center positioned information screen for on-the-go vehicle settings and mileage information. A nicely designed center console comes complete with a standard shift lever along with rotary dial for on-screen access along with a switch for toggling between the Q50’s six different drive modes. Outward visibility is quite good as is the ergonomic layout and overall interior decibel level. Rear storage capacity is also rated at 14.0 cubic feet.

2019 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 AWD Performance

Make no mistake; the 2019 Q50 RS400 with all-wheel drive is a fast car. We’re talking 0-60mph in just 4.5-seconds and then onto an electronically limited top speed of 153-mph. The acceleration is thanks to all four wheels spinning in unison, but it’s that twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 with 400bhp and 350 lb-ft of torque that really makes it happen. A smooth shifting 7-speed automatic gearbox is utilized to put the power down and thanks to six selectable drive modes (Personal, Sport +, Sport, Standard, ECO, Snow) drivers can customize the Q50 RS400 to their liking.

Ride quality in Standard Mode is quite comfortable with the Q50 soaking up road imperfections with ease, while Sport+ firms up the suspension and steering to deliver a sport-oriented ride that performance enthusiasts will enjoy. Take the Q50 down your favorite twisty road and you’ll be treated to a sedan with a competent chassis, responsive suspension and a confidence-inspiring brake pedal thanks to large 4-piston front calipers on large 14-inch ventilated discs. This is a sedan that not only delivers power and handling but decent mileage numbers as well with EPA rated figures coming in at 26-mpg on the highway, 19-city, and 22-mpg in overall driving.
