There’s no two ways about it — the Camaro ZL1 1LE redefined how the world saw the Camaro. With this weapons-grade version, Chevy’s legendary muscle car became not just a straight-line bruiser, but rather a track terror designed to tackle corners.
Remember when it lapped the notorious Nürburgring in just 7:16:04? Because we can’t forget. If you’re keeping score, that’s faster than a Ferrari 488 GTB, which costs about $170,000 more.
Previously, the ZL1 LE was only available with a six-speed manual transmission, but Chevy has just announced that a ten-speed automatic will be on the menu going forward. And while we’re always going to opt for the stick when given a choice, the new gearbox means it’ll be even quicker where it counts. According to the General, it’s half a second faster around the track at the company’s Milford Proving Grounds.
Of course, the extra performance will come with an increase in cost, but at $1,595, it’s a relatively small bump from the model’s $69,995* list price.
While we haven’t gotten a chance to check out how the new 10-speed model performs yet, AutoNation Drive’s resident hot shoe Mike Musto got a chance to drive the three-pedal model, and he came away impressed. Here’s a taste of what he had to say about this bad Bow Tie:

Its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 makes 650 horsepower and and 650 lb-ft of torque, it stops from 60 mph in just 91 feet, and it recently lapped the famed Nurburgring in a blistering 7:16.03. Simply put, this car is serious — and it’s coming for the world’s best with both barrels blazing.
