While yellow taxi cabs are quite popular in New York City, the Big Apple is also Range Rover Sport’s largest metropolitan market – so it’s only right that Land Rover holds the debut of the new Range Rover Sport at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Oh, and on a side note, the Range Rover Sport also happens to be best-selling Land Rover product in North America.
“The new Range Rover Sport is the ultimate luxury SUV. A new Range Rover Sport for a new era. Relevant, sustainable and utterly desirable. Alongside the all new Range Rover, and the Range Rover Evoque, the new Range Rover Sport represents the third distinct product in Land Rover’s product revolution. Firmly establishing it as a powerhouse British brand, with exceptional Design at its core,” said Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, Gerry McGovern.
According to Land Rover, while the Range Rover Sport was indeed developed alongside the ‘standard’ model and shares some common parts with its sibling, the Sport benefits from 75 percent unique parts.
When sales start in the third quarter of 2013, the Range Rover Sport will be available with a choice of four engines. The gasoline engine lineup consists of two supercharged engines including a 510-hp 5.0 liter V8 and a 340-hp 3.0 liter V6. The diesel lineup will consist of a 3.0 liter 258-hp TDV6 and a 292-hp SDV6. Later this year, the diesel lineup will be expanded with a 4.4 liter 339-hp SDV8.
Land Rover has also confirmed that there will be a diesel hybrid version of the Range Rover Sport that will be available to order in 2014. Technical details of that model will be announced closer to launch.
