The top 5 reliable used cars in 2017 survey looked at all car brands, taking data from a JD Powers Study of 100 cars per brand, and then reporting back the vehicles with the least amount of issues, on cars that were three years old. Now more than ever consumers are demanding dependability in their cars, which is the arcing theme of the Vehicle Dependability Study. Based on issues that were reported over the course of the last year by owners, the areas focused on: heating/cooling, engine/transmission, features/controls, entertainment/navigation, and overall driving experience.
Of course, they’re all winners in our eyes, but according to the study, here are the top 5 reliable used cars in 2017.
*These are all the 2014 models.
- Ford F-150—Winner: large, light duty pickup category
You can purchase the used F-150 full pickup truck in three cab styles, select from four engines, and get it in one of 11 trims. It’s hard to beat the best-selling vehicle in the United States.
- Lexus ES—Winner: compact, premium car category
The pre-owned Lexus ES is a great entry into the luxury car market, as it’s a sedan with a super-sized interior. The 2014 Lexus ES comes in the ES 350 or ES 300h trim levels. The ES 350 has a V-6 and the ES 300h is a hybrid.
- Chevrolet Camaro—Winner: midsize sport car category
You can get the 2014 Chevy Camaro as a coupe or convertible, in the following trim levels: LS, LT, SS, Z/28, and ZL1. LS and Z/28 are not available in convertible, so keep this in mind. There is no wrong answer when it comes to Chevy Camaro, however, as it may not be possible to get any more “America” than this classic sports car.
- Volkswagen Tiguan—Winner: small SUV category
You can get this five-seater compact crossover in FWD or AWD in configurations: S, SE, SE with Appearance Package, SEL and R-Line, at exceptional values and great fuel economy.
- Toyota Camry—Winner: midsized car category
Consider it a triumph to win in this category with such a high volume of competing cars. Look out for the pre-owned 2014 Toyota Camry as a 4-cylinder, V-6 or hybrid model. Available trim levels include: L, LE, XLE and SE Toyota Camry vehicles. The Camry gets average and above-average ratings across the board in just about everything.
