OK, so maybe the Porsche Panamera wagon isn’t at your local AutoNation-affiliated Porsche dealer just yet. But Stuttgart has unveiled the production model at the Geneva Motor Show, so we know it’s actually a real thing. It’s called the 2018 Panamera Sport Turismo. Hallelujah.
To say Porsche fans — and enthusiasts in general — have been waiting for a long-roof version of the Panamera is a bit of an understatement. The faithful have been calling for it since before the four-door sedan’s debut nearly a decade ago, and only intensified after the first generation was revealed. Because you know, the Panamera is somewhat unfortunate looking.
To be fair, the styling of the current models is slightly better. But even Porsche’s CEO has publicly admitted the company whiffed the exterior design of the company’s first sedan. Back in 2009, when a colleague at the New York International Auto Show asked us what we thought about the Panamera’s interior? Our mind recalled author William Morris’ famous quote about how he ate at the Eiffel Tower so he wouldn’t have to look at it.
The 2018 Panamera Sport Turismo is a gorgeous execution of the concept Stuttgart should have built in the first place, and like the rest of the line, it’s packing heat. Top spec-models get a 550-hp twin-turbo V-8, and even the available 330-horsepower, 3.0-liter turbo V-6 should motivate it sufficiently. The Panamera is one of the best handling sedans ever made, and since the wagon has the same wheelbase and overall length, we expect greatness from the Sport Turismo. A station wagon that can tackle the twisties has long been an enthusiast dream, and we’re pretty sure Porsche hit it out of the park.
If you’re interested in scoring a 2018 Panamera Sport Turismo, we’d recommend getting on the list at your AutoNation-affiliated Porsche dealer sooner rather than later. These bad boys won’t arrive until sometime later in the year, but they’re sure to be hot sellers.
