Land Rover recently showcased their plan with the next generation Discovery SUV, also known as the LR4 here in the United States. Sporting a complete redesign and new technology all around, the Discovery Vision Concept was one of the highlights at the 2014 New York International Auto Show.
The new Discovery Vision starts life on J-LR’s latest modular platform while the production Discovery will sport a lot of new technology, such as their trick disappearing-hood system, that provides drivers with a better view of what they’re going to drive over. Previous reports also indicated that Land Rover is creating a Discovery brand to produce an entire line of models similarly to the full-size Range Rover and its succeeding Sport and Evoque models. As of this publishing, there are reports about an off-road biased version and a smaller Discovery Sport, which will replace the archaic LR2/Freelander.
AutoExpress indicates that these plans are shaping up to be true in a recent report. Word is that Land Rover will produce at least four-new Discovery models according to their findings. Utilizing the previous information and using deduction, three versions of Discovery have apparently been called for already: the standard Discovery model, the aforementioned rumored off-road version, and the Discovery Sport, which means there’s one more model to be indicated. Some have postulated the possibility of a BMW X4 or X6 competitor, though nothing has indicated anything of that nature thus far.
