The Blue Oval has been a little cheeky about whether or not we’re going to actually get the Ranger Raptor here in the States. The official word — said with an obvious wink — is that we’ll know by 2035, but spy video of a production version testing in Detroit seems to suggest that American buyers will get a chance to own Ford’s pint-size version of its factory trophy truck. After all, this baby has smash hit written all over it, and we don’t think Ford is prepared to leave all the potential profits on the table.
So while the official confirmation might be 17 years out, you read it here first — the Ranger Raptor will be available at your local AutoNation Ford dealer. We’re crossing our fingers it’ll have the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine under the hood, because doesn’t that sound like a hoot?
At this point, we think the big question is whether Ford will use the platform to bring back the Lightening, because the timing seems perfect for a street-tuned hot rod truck, and among enthusiasts, there’s still of lot of love for the model. Check out the video below to get an in-depth look at the Ranger Raptor’s production line in Thailand, and hope we get word about availability here soon.
