The Mazda MX-5 has been in production since 1989 and for more than 27 years it has been the best-selling roadster on the market. Well, another milestone was hit for the MX-5 as the one-millionth Miata rolls into the history books from the production line.
“From the first generation through to today’s fourth-generation model, the reason we have been able to continue selling the MX-5 all these years is due to the strong support of fans around the world,” said Masamichi Kogai, representative director, president and CEO, Mazda Corporation.
The one-millionth Miata chassis is a Japanese-spec 1.5L soft-top model that won’t be heading to showrooms, but the show circuit so that fans around the globe can appreciate this special model.
Mazda’s newest iteration of the MX-5 offers Mazda’s brand new KODO-Soul in Motion design philosophy, a lower-weight chassis, and an eco-friendly SKYACTIV engine that still holds true to the spirit of the original MX-5 Miata.
The Mazda MX-5 is already in the Guinness Book of World Records for the best-selling open-top two-seater sports coupe, and now Mazda has entered its own records books for achieving the one-millionth MX-5.
