For those who haven’t been, SEMA is one of the craziest car shows on the planet. Which means there are plenty of concepts so wildly impractical, there’s no hope you’d ever catch one at your local cruise-in. But while the flashy—sometimes trashy—builds can dominate the coverage, you don’t have to look hard to find the kind of hard-nosed performance cars which make enthusiasts weak in the knees. And that’s the direction Honda went this year, as there wasn’t anything in its booth which wouldn’t feel right at home on the track. Check out our shots of Honda at SEMA 2017!
Given how much press the Civic Type R has been getting, you didn’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out that there would be some trick examples in the booth—and Honda didn’t disappoint. Now, even the stock version of this pocket rocket looks vicious, but the sick carbon fiber bits really made the Red Carbon Kit model on the floor pop. That said, we loved Honda Research West race version even more, because in our high-octane brains? Virtually every vehicle on the planet looks better wearing a racing livery. And battle scars—like the ones the Global Rallycross car was wearing—totally complete the package.
Of course, the luxury end of the business wasn’t left out of the party, and we thought the naked carbon GT3 Acura NSX looked particularly menacing. In its debut season with the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, this baby has already given the competition a run for its money at events like the 24 Hours of Daytona, the Belle Isle Grand Prix in Motor City, and famed circuits like Watkins Glen. So we expect to see plenty more podiums when the 2018 racing season kicks into high gear.
