There is no doubt that luxury crossovers are becoming more and more popular. However, there is one super exclusive segment within the luxury crossover segment that offers some really sleek and unique looking options. The segment was originally started by BMW with the aggressive looking X6 and since then many automakers have jumped in on the action to grab a piece of this one-of-a-kind pie.
The BMW X6 has totally dominated the segment that it launched but now with newcomers like the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, the X6 is facing some strong competition. With that in mind, we decided to take a look at how the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe stands up to the legendary BMW X6. Let’s have a look.
2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe vs. 2017 BMW X6 Exterior Comparison
Most people that see the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe for the first time instantly see the resemblance in the luxury crossover’s overall profile to that of the BMW X6. The Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is based on the GLE so the front-end styling is very familiar. From the B-pillar and back, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe adopts a sloping roof-line that is aggressively chopped off towards the end of the tailgate. The rear-end of the GLE Coupe is vastly different from that of the standard GLE and yes, it is about ten times more stylish.
The BMW X6, which was already a pretty aggressive looking crossover, recently received a design upgrade that made that much sleeker and meaner looking. The front-end adopts the new BMW kidney grille while the rear end gets some sharp looking taillamps.
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe sits on a wheelbase that measures 114.8 inches with an overall length of 192.7 inches. The 2017 BMW X6, on the other hand, sits on a wheelbase that measures 115.5 inches with an overall length of 193.8 inches.
2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe vs. 2017 BMW X6 Interior Comparison
The front row area of both crossovers are a straight copy of their standard siblings. The BMW X6 copies the interior front row cabin of the BMW X5, while the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe copies the front-row of the Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The rear seats are where things get exciting. Both cars feature a sharp sloping roofline in the back and lose a little bit of interior volume for rear passengers. The BMW X6 offers front row passengers 40.3 inches of legroom while rear passengers get 35.6 inches. Mercedes-Benz has yet to state the official legroom figures, but we don’t see them being far off from that of the X6.
Overall, both offer a very quality built and luxurious interior.
