Here’s the Autonomous Vehicle Lexus is Bringing to CES: Video

As much as they’ve been portrayed in movies and pop culture, flying cars will likely never happen on a practical scale. Self-driving cars, on the other hand, might still be a ways off, but make no mistake, they’re happening.

In fact, we think these will be adopted so fast it’ll make the heads of purists spin like tops, and as a kind of sneak preview of the future, Lexus is bringing this modified LS 500h to the Consumer Electronics Show this year.

For the record, we’re hoping the engineers let it out of the booth for some driving demos, and don’t just make it a static show piece. It’d be interesting to see how it handled a track and obstacles.

This car is a test bed for two different driving modes, Guardian, where a regular driver gets a host of aids to ensure safety, and Chauffeur, which will drive you home, with no human intervention. Toyota has actually been working on self-driving tech for years, and with this evolution of the technology, the goal is to provide passengers with a smoother experience. For a full tour of this trick LS 500, check out the video below.

Like we said, it’ll be a while before you’ll be able to check out a self-driving car at your local AutoNation-affiliated Lexus dealer. But until then, they have loads of amazing vehicles available to test drive, from the sleek, sexy LC 500, to versatile NX 300 F Sport, to the luxurious and off-road-ready LX 570.

So if you’re looking to pick up a fantastic new luxury vehicle, pay them a visit today!
