Late last month, Ford dropped a couple of shots of the latest version of its ferocious Shelby GT500, and now we’ve got a bunch of new info about another potent pony, the 2019 Mustang Shelby GT350.
While there haven’t been any updates to the powertrain, nobody was complaining about the 5.2-liter, 526-horsepower flat-plane V8, so Ford made numerous other tweaks to make sure drivers can wring every last bit of performance out of the overall package. Like the old saying goes, shoes make the man, and for 2019, the GT350 is shod with super sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 meats.
Tires can make a tremendous contribution to every aspect of a vehicle’s athletic abilities, so folks fortunate enough to get to drive it at the limit will likely notice pronounced improvement in cornering, braking, and acceleration. For the record, we also think the new 19-inch aluminum wheels look the business too.
Out back, there’s a sexy new spoiler, and the settings for the MagneRide suspension — along with the beefy Brembo brakes at all four corners — have been tweaked to take advantage of the GT350’s unique compound and tread pattern. To make sure drivers are get properly familiar with all the new kit, the Blue Oval is also throwing in a complimentary day of track time. That’s important, because the potential of this car far exceeds anything you’d ever be able to safely approach on public roads — so it’s best not to even try.
You’ll be able to pick up a 2019 Mustang Shelby GT350 at your local AutoNation Ford dealer starting next year. But if you’re serious about scoring one, we’d recommend getting a list, as allocations are sure to be tight. We’re hoping Mike Musto — our in-house hot shoe — will get the opportunity to run some hot laps in the near future, so stay tuned for a full report on this latest track-ready Mustang!
