2018 Volvo XC60 T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid Inscription Test Drive Review

When you hear someone talk about a Volvo, the first impressions that go through your mind are safety and luxury. It is very rare that you will consider words like “high-performance” or “supercharged.” Well, all that is about to change because the car we’re discussing today has more torque than a Porsche Macan Turbo. That’s right, the all-new Volvo XC60 T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid Inscription packs a total of 400 horsepower (same as the Porsche Macan Turbo) and has a peak torque of 472 lb-ft.

Not only does the Volvo XC60 T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid Inscription compete with the Porsche Macan Turbo but it also takes a stab at the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 and the BMW X3 M40i. So, while Volvo may not be known for its high-output powertrains, the Volvo XC60 T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid Inscription is here to prove otherwise. Let’s take a closer look at this high-performance version of the all-new 2018 Volvo XC60.

2018 Volvo XC60 T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid Inscription Exterior:

Although you can have the 400 horsepower T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid in the Volvo X60 Inscription trim-level, the Inscription is where all the aggressiveness lets you flaunt your performance.

While it’s not a complete departure from the already stellar looks of other trim levels of the Volvo XC60, the Inscription Package adds, larger air intakes on the front, a more aggressive grille, laminated panoramic moonroof, integrated tailpipes, and distinctive 5-spoke 19″ alloy wheels. As always, the quickest way to spot an Inscription Volvo is to look at the color of the sideview mirror covers, which are always finished in a dark matte silver.

Dimensions wise, the 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid Inscription sits on a wheelbase that measures 112.8-inches with an overall length of 184.6-inches. The width comes in at 83.3-inches while the height stands at 65.3-inches.

Overall, the Inscription does an excellent job of adding a slight touch of toughness to the already fashionable and smooth design of the new 2018 Volvo XC60. Stand the new Volvo XC60 next to its opponents and the model really stands out with its Thor headlamps and overall Swedish grace.

2018 Volvo XC60 T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid Inscription Interior

Here is where the Inscription aspect of the Volvo XC60 really stands out. Unlike the Volvo XC60 Momentum and R-Design, which go for luxury and comfort, the Inscription Package takes over with sporty elements throughout the cabin.

Right off the bat, you’ll notice the sculpted Inscription contour Nappa leather seats, metal mesh inlays, perforated Sport Inscription steering wheel, perforated gear shifter (unless you go for the Orrefors crystal shifter), and “Inscription” logos throughout the cabin.

As mentioned in our review of the 2018 Volvo XC60 T6 Inscription review, the XC60 comes with a long list of standard interior features. The 9-inch Sensus Touchscreen display houses all your audio, vehicle, safety, HVAC, controls while a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster gives you all the important information you need right in front of you. As always with any Volvo that’s available today, we highly recommend the 1400W 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system which will completely revolutionize the way you listen to music. Buyers can also add heated and cooled seats, heated steering, heated rear seats, and a range of advanced driver assist technologies that we’ll cover in the ‘Safety’ section of our review.

Legroom wise, the 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid Inscription offers a total of 41.5-inches for front-row passengers and 38-inches for rear-passengers. If you’re in the need to for some extra baggage, all XC60 models offer a cargo capacity of 63.3 cubic feet.

Overall, Volvo continues to awe us with the quality and design of their new interiors. It offers a feeling that is unmatchable by most of its rivals.
