It should come as no surprise that, as you get older and mature, tastes change. For example, it used to be that all I cared about were horsepower and torque figures. I wanted my cars to do burnouts, donuts and sound like the God of War when they came around a corner. And while those are still important (kind of), I’ve come to the point in my life where items like comfort, tranquility and convenience are weighing into my purchasing decisions more heavily. Enter the 2018 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400, a sport coupe with a presence that packs a twin-turbo V-6, rear-wheel drive and a zero to 60 time of just 4.5 seconds. It’s also quiet, handles great, and has some of the best seats I’ve experienced in a long time. I’m also trying to figure out if the Q60 is as good as I think it is, or if its simply done a masterful job persuading me that I’m growing old and turning into a full-fledged adult [ Rest assured, he hasn’t —Eds].

2018 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Exterior
It seems that instead of reinventing the wheel, Infiniti is trying to refine it. You see fifteen years ago there was no Q60 in the Infiniti lineup, but there was the G35 Coupe. And while it was a bit harsh around the edges it was also the vehicle that paved the way for the Q60 you see here. The G37 Coupe came next and brought with it a more refined look and feel along with some new technology, however real performance was still lacking. And while the platform was evolving, we still hadn’t received that shot of adrenaline the brand desperately needed. So 2016 brought forth the Q60. It sported new organically designed body panels; better mechanics and an interior that finally let it dance with the competition.
This is a good-looking automobile that combines elegant shapes and curves with a sporty flare that denotes performance. An angry front fascia complete with a chrome mesh grille integrated driving lights and beautifully formed lower lip spoiler gives the Q60 Red Sport somewhat of a dark presence. A raked hood extends into the fender line while carbon capped mirrors help to showcase the chrome-trimmed windows. Out back, the rear glass flows into a deck lid that sports a mini carbon spoiler. Then there is the blacked-out lower exhaust housing that encases two rivet-style exhaust ports that look like twin mini-guns. As for the wheels, they’re of the 20-inch staggered aluminum split-spoke variety and fill out the inner wells nicely.
2018 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Interior
Fitted with the optional Silver Optic Fiber interior trim package this Q60 Red Sport 400 sports an interior that is comfortable and extremely pleasing from an ergonomic standpoint. Infiniti states that they have tailored the interior to fit the human form by using zero gravity research to help design seats that are not only comfortable but also reduce fatigue. And while that may sound like marketing jargon, it must be said that they weren’t lying because it is, without question, one of the most comfortable cabins I’ve encountered in quite some time.
From the materials used, to the near-perfect stitching, the interior relays a feeling of quality and craftsmanship throughout. With options such as leather trimmed 8-way power front seats with heat and ventilation, to the carbon inlays on the console and door, to the Infiniti InTouch dual display infotainment and navigation system, the designers engineered this cabin to be intuitive and inviting. This car feels like it was crafted for taller individuals like myself as head, leg and shoulder room available exceeded my expectations. Rear seating is ample for shorter adults or children, while cargo space comes in at 12 cubic-feet.
2018 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Performance:
With 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque coming from the twin-turbocharged 3.0L V-6, the Q60 Red Sport definitely has the grunt to back up its aggressive good looks. The engine itself is a fantastic piece of kit. It’s quiet around town, but smooth as silk when pushed to the 6,000 rpm redline. Mash the go-pedal and 60 mph will come up in just 4.5 seconds, then onto an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. And with no less than six-different drive modes (Personal, Sport+, Sport, Standard, Eco and Snow) one can configure the Q60 to suit their individual driving style.
Electronically controlled power steering is precise with a nicely weighted feel that translates what’s going on with the front wheels back to the driver. A 7-speed automatic transmission puts power to the pavement via the rear wheels and can also be shifted manually. Throwing the Q60 Red Sport down my favorite twisty road was a joy, as not only did it handle hard left-to-right transitions with ease, but also the suspension and large brakes provided nothing but confidence and stability at the limit. I wouldn’t go so far as to call this a track machine, but my guess is that with the right driver it would surprise vehicles costing much more. EPA rated mileage figures were also a pleasant surprise considering the cars performance. They came in at 20-mpg city, 27-highway and 22-mpg* in combined driving.
