2018 Audi SQ5 Test Drive Review

Originally, the Audi Q5 went virtually untouched since 2008 as it helped fuel Audi of America’s growth to 200,000 sales in 2015 as the German brand’s top-selling model. Well, everything eventually gets outdated and needs an upgrade, which is why the Audi Q5 recently received a much-needed overhaul for the second-generation model.

If we were to use one word to describe the 2018 Audi Q5 it would be “marvelous.” The new version of the Q5 features a very energetic exterior design, standard quattro all-wheel-drive, and a variety of interior technology options and driver assist systems that are well ahead of the industry standards. However, there is something else that the Audi Q5 has to offer in 2018 which has us really excited – the SQ5. The 354 horsepower Audi SQ5 takes everything we admire about the new Q5 and throws in a more powerful engine that makes it even more enjoyable to drive. Let’s take a closer look at the 2018 Audi SQ5.

2018 Audi SQ5 Exterior

Taking cues from the new Audi Q7, the 2018 Audi SQ5 and Q5 feature sculpted three-dimensional headlights that enhance the character of the Singleframe grille and clamshell hood. There are short front and rear overhangs that provide the Q5 lineup with a muscular stance along with standard aluminum roof rails and rear spoiler. All Audi Q5 models also feature a hand-free liftgate release so you can keep your keys in your pocket and open it without lifting a finger.

The 2018 Audi SQ5 gets some exclusive design elements that set it apart from the rest of the Q5 lineup including a platinum gray Singleframe grille, aluminum housings for the side mirrors, an S model rear roof spoiler and 20-inch polished wheels.

The 2018 Audi SQ5 sits on a wheelbase that measures 111.2-inches with an overall length of 183.9-inches (about an inch over the outgoing model). The width of the Audi SQ5 stretches to 84.3-inches with the height that stands at 65.3-inches.

Overall, we think Audi did an exceptional job at redesigning the new 2018 Audi Q5 and giving the Audi SQ5 a little bit of an edge over the base models. When compared to its other high-performance crossover opponents, the 2018 Audi SQ5 stands out with razor-sharp looks.
