The 2018 Q5 embodies everything you know and love about Audi’s sedans while offering more room and some exclusive features of its own.

While it’s widely-known that an SUV excels in versatility, the Q5 also has a strong focus on performance, as evidenced by its coupe-inspired roof line and signature three-dimensional Singleframe grille.

Full-LED headlights along with functional vents complete the look of the all-new front fascia, while the rear features LED taillights with dynamic turn signals, a roof spoiler, privacy glass, and a standard power tailgate.

Our test model came painted in a seductive Moonlight Blue metallic color, and was complemented by 18-inch five-double-spoke-dynamic design wheels and aluminum roof rails. The available Prestige package also adds dual pane acoustic glass for the front side windows, as well as high-gloss window surrounds and a panoramic sunroof.

With strong character lines and everlasting style, the 2018 Q5 is a master class in widely-appealing vehicle design.

As part of its generational redesign, the 2018 Q5’s interior features improved cabin space — especially for the rear passengers — as well as increased cargo capacity with the rear 40/20/40 split seatbacks folded down.

Further enhancing our test model’s Rock Gray interior is the available Prestige package, which adds a number of technology and luxury features to the signature wing-design wrap-around dashboard. Audi virtual cockpit replaces the standard instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch digital display that delivers vibrant graphics and full-screen views of the map or Google Earth images.

And for the first time in the Q5 lineup, MMI all-in-touch with handwriting recognition technology comes as standard equipment, featuring a large touch pad and intuitive controls. This is by far one of our favorite input systems because of its ergonomic design and look-free operation.

Another important element of the MMI system is an 8.3-inch screen at the center of the dash, which communicates all of the vehicle’s infotainment offerings, like GPS navigation, satellite radio, streaming media, connected apps, and more.

Our Q5 test model also came equipped with optional warm weather and cold weather packages, adding front seat ventilation, manual rear side window sunshades, and heated rear seats and steering wheel. Other interior highlights include a head up display, customizable interior lighting, 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, high-gloss Gray Oak wood inlays, and support for Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto.

With all of the luxury, comfort, and amenities offered by the 2018 Q5, long commutes suddenly start to feel like relaxing getaways.

2018 Audi Audi Q5 2.0T quattro Performance

At the core of every 2018 Q5 is a new 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine that produces 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. This efficient and responsive motor works alongside a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission to rocket the Q5 from zero to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds, which is 1.1 seconds faster than the previous generation.

The 2018 model year also brings about a new quattro all-wheel drive system, featuring ultra technology for fully variable torque distribution. Using an electronically controlled clutch and a decoupling rear axle, the 2018 Q5 can intelligently predict torque needs based on driver input and road conditions, making it a versatile off-road solution for more rugged adventures.

Audi drive select also offers additional performance tailoring with five modes: comfort, auto, dynamic, individual, and off-road. Each drive mode adjusts specific aspects of the Q5, like suspension damping, steering weight, and powertrain behavior, to provide the best experience for a variety of driving situations and handling preferences.

Our test model came equipped with optional adaptive damping which further enhances the performance of the redesigned, lightweight suspension architecture. The result is an on-road experience that’s both comfortable and sporty, with handling characteristics that resemble a traditional car.

Fuel economy for the 2018 Audi Q5 2.0T quattro is an EPA-estimated 23 mpg city and 27 mpg highway**.

When it comes to advanced safety technology, few vehicles offer as much passenger protection as the 2018 Q5.

Standard safety equipment for the 2018 model year includes an advanced airbag system, anti-lock brakes, Audi pre sense basic and pre sense city, electronic stabilization control with off-road mode, rearview camera, and child safety locks for the rear doors.

Our test model’s optional Prestige package adds even more safety features: Audi side assist with pre sense rear, parking system plus, and top view camera system.

Unique to Audi, an available driver assistance package truly changes the monotony of a daily commute by offering adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist and Audi active lane assist. These systems work together to dramatically reduce driver fatigue during times of peak road congestion.
