2018 Audi A4 allroad 2.0T Test Drive Review

When it comes to off-road adventures, some cars trade comfort and convenience for capability, but that’s not the case for the 2018 Audi A4 allroad 2.0T.

This all-around performer delivers the same luxurious experience that Audi is known for, and adds to it purpose-built details to help tackle low-traction scenarios.

See how easy it is to push past conventional boundaries with a closer look at our 2018 Audi A4 allroad 2.0T test model.

Starting with Audi’s popular mid-size sedan platform, the 2018 A4 allroad offers even more usability and versatility thanks to a wagon form-factor and additional ruggedness.

As the model name suggests, the A4 allroad is ready to tackle less-than-ideal pathways with increased ground clearance, strong underbody protection, and black cladding along the wheel arches and lower edges of the vehicle.

Of course, Audi’s signature design elements are still present on this luxury wagon, like the Singleframe grille, LED headlights, panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, rear privacy glass, and more.

Our test model came painted in an exquisite Moonlight Blue metallic color, and featured the optional Prestige package, which adds power-folding exterior mirrors (heated, auto-dim) as well as dual pane acoustic glass for the front side windows.

Other exterior features include 18-inch 5-V-spoke design wheels with all-season tires, LED taillights with dynamic turn signals, aluminum roof rails, and front filler panel.

It only takes one look at the 2018 A4 allroad to know that this is more than a typical daily-driver.

While the exterior has been upfitted to better withstand rough terrain, the passenger area is as luxurious and comfortable as ever, featuring a variety of standard equipment like heated front seats, leather seating surface, and three-zone automatic climate control.

The front seats offer 8-way power adjustment with 4-way customizable driver lumbar support, and the rear seatback folds in a 40/20/40 split to accommodate larger cargo or adventure equipment.

As part of the Prestige package, our test model came equipped with the award-winning Audi virtual cockpit, a 12.3-inch digital display that replaces the traditional instrument cluster with vibrant, high-resolution graphics powered by NVIDIA. This screen delivers pertinent information to the driver, and acts as a supplemental hub to the car’s main entertainment system — Audi MMI with navigation.

The award-winning Audi MMI system is where you’ll find GPS navigation along with satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, streaming music apps, Audi connect services, and more. It’s one of our favorite in-car entertainment solutions thanks to its large, center-mount 8.3-inch display and intuitive MMI Touch controls which also recognizes handwriting. You have the option to manage many of the MMI features with voice control or shortcut buttons mounted on the steering wheel.

Other interior highlights of our Prestige package test model include a Bang & Olufsen sound system, LED interior lighting, manual rear side window shades, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.

After any strenuous outing, it’s always nice to climb back into the warmth, comfort, and luxury of the 2018 A4 allroad.
