2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Limited Test Drive Review

The all-new 2017 Subaru Impreza offers even more versatility, value, and good looks with a new global platform that’s manufactured right here in America.

Featuring a ground-up redesign, the Impreza’s stronger, more rigid, and vibration resistant base structure sets a new standard for quality and durability.

Find out why the all-new Impreza continues to be the longest-lasting vehicle in its class with a closer look at our 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Limited test model.

2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Limited Exterior

Subaru’s next-generation design language makes its debut on the 2017 Impreza, featuring a signature hexagonal grille and hawk-eye headlights that complement the athletic character lines of the newly sculpted body.

A slightly longer wheelbase and body design give the 2017 Impreza confident proportions while an additional 1.5-inches in width provide extra cabin room when compared to the outgoing model. Its stance has been lowered by 0.4-inches, which enhances the Impreza’s aerodynamic prowess.

Our 2.0i Limited test model came equipped with steering responsive LED headlights that point in the direction of a turn, and also featured body-colored side view mirrors with integrated turn signals.

The standard 17-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels with dark gray accents offer a nice aesthetic highlight that matches the Venetian Red Pearl exterior paint of our test model.

Other exterior features include chrome door handles, standard fog lights, chrome exhaust tip, and sound insulation windshield.

2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Limited Interior

The thoughtful design language continues on the inside with leather-trimmed upholstery, accent stitching, and a user-friendly layout.

At the center of the silver-trimmed dashboard, you’ll find a 6.3-inch LCD multi-function display that keeps you informed about outside temperature, climate control, fuel economy, and vehicle systems functions.

Just below the multi-function display sits an all-new STARLINK multimedia system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Our test model came equipped with the optional 8-inch touchscreen version, which provides easy access to music, navigation, hands-free calling, connectivity apps, and more. Buttons on the leather-wrapped steering wheel give you additional controls for the STARLINK system, and allow you to manage phone calls as well as activate voice recognition.

For the 2017 model year, the Impreza 2.0i Limited boasts increased passenger space of 99.8 cubic feet, making it the in-class leader for passenger volume. Five passengers can fit comfortably, or fold down the 60/40 split rear seats to create 52.4 cubic feet of total cargo space.

Other features of the Ivory interior (one of two interior colors) include automatic climate control, 6-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and simulated carbon fiber door trim. Our 2.0i Limited test model also included an optional power moonroof and a Harmon Kardon sound system (available for the first time in Impreza).

2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Limited Performance

Powering the 2017 Impreza 2.0i Limited is a revised version of Subaru’s legendary 2.0-liter Boxer engine, which now features direct fuel injection. This quick-revving and capable engine produces 152 horsepower along with 148 lb-ft of torque.

A Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) keeps the Boxer engine in its optimum power range with essentially infinite gears. Drivers who like to be more involved in piloting the vehicle can switch the CVT to a 7-speed manual mode and use the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters to change gears.

This powertrain now sits on a new chassis design that features a 70 percent more rigid body structure which aids in straight-line stability, cornering agility, and improved ride quality. A decrease in noise transfer, vibration, and harshness are additional benefits of the new platform.

Of course, no Subaru is complete without its storied symmetrical all-wheel drive (AWD) system. This technology enhances cornering stability and traction by intelligently distributing power where it’s needed, resulting in a confident and spirited driving experience.

Fuel efficiency for the 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Limited is an EPA estimated 28 mpg city and 38 mpg highway**.

2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Limited Safety

As a leader in vehicle safety, the 2017 Impreza features a multitude of standard and available driver aids like Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Brake Assist, Incline Start Assist, rear-vision camera, and more.

Our test model came equipped with the award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, which adds advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control, automatic pre-collision braking, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking, to name a few. EyeSight is constantly watching your surroundings, and can even steer you back into your lane — a new feature for the 2017 Impreza.

In the event of an accident, STARLINK Safety and Security will automatically notify first responders when an airbag deploys. This connected service also features enhanced roadside assistance, stolen vehicle recovery, and remote services.
