For 2017, Nissan expands the lineup of its top selling vehicle in the U.S. — the versatile Rogue — by adding a hybrid model.
Dynamic styling updates, a new powertrain, and the addition of standard advanced safety features make the 2017 Rogue Hybrid an unbeatable value.
Find out why the Rogue continues to set sales records with a closer look at our 2017 Nissan Rogue SL Hybrid AWD test model.
2017 Nissan Rogue SL Hybrid AWD Exterior
For the latest model year, the Rogue received exterior updates which include a new front fascia with integrated fog lights, Nissan’s signature V-Motion grille, and redesigned headlights that now feature LED daytime running lights.
Looking at the rear, the bumper and LED taillights also received small updates to accompany the new chrome trim side door moldings. These visual changes come together to give the 2017 Rogue a modern and dynamic feel, especially when paired with the SL model’s available 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels.
Our test model came painted in a vibrant Monarch Orange, and sported aluminum roof rails, rugged lower black cladding, and a body-colored roof spoiler. And if these details weren’t enough to convince you of the Rogue’s performance and capability, the AWD (all-wheel drive) badging will surely finish the job.
Other exterior features include heated outside mirrors, privacy glass, chrome door handles, and a motion-activated rear liftgate.
2017 Nissan Rogue SL Hybrid AWD Interior
The Rogue’s charcoal interior — one of two color options — welcomes you with premium materials, a roomy layout, and plenty of advanced technology.
New for the 2017 model year is a heated, leather-wrapped D-shaped steering wheel, a leather boot for the gear shifter, memory for the driver’s seat and mirror positions, and a remote engine start system.
The front leather-appointed bucket seats feature a Zero Gravity design for the ultimate in comfort, and the driver is treated to 6-way power adjustment with power lumbar support.
At the center of the flowing dashboard is a 7-inch color touchscreen that features NissanConnect. This is where you’ll find all your infotainment options, like satellite radio, Bluetooth phone connectivity, GPS navigation, mobile apps, and more. NissanConnect services help you access the Internet while on the road, letting you check in on social media, travel tips, or search the web.
And when you don’t have a co-pilot to assist in programming the NissanConnect system, an intuitive voice recognition system lets you operate navigation and audio while keeping your attention on the road ahead. The 2017 Rogue now also supports Siri Eyes Free.
With comfortable seating for five adults, the spacious interior also excels at cargo storage, especially when you fold the second-row 60/40 split seats to create 70 cu. ft. of usable space.
Other interior features include a 9-speaker Bose premium audio system, under-floor cargo storage, and dual-zone automatic temperature control. Our test model also came equipped with an optional power panoramic moonroof.
2017 Nissan Rogue SL Hybrid AWD Performance
Powering the first-ever Rogue Hybrid is a 2.0-liter I-4 engine with 176 total system horsepower. The intelligent hybrid system can stop the engine during idle times and instantly restart when you’re ready to go. The hybrid system’s performance is easily monitored with an energy flow gauge in the instrument cluster, and at low speeds, the Rogue Hybrid can function on 100% electric power.
An integral part of the powertrain is Nissan’s Xtronic CVT (continuously variable transmission), which helps keep the engine in its optimum torque range while also maximizing fuel efficiency.
Don’t let the hybrid system fool you though — this Rogue is no slouch. With front independent and rear multilink suspension along with an on-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) system, the 2017 Rogue Hybrid offers adaptive performance for impressive grip, responsiveness, and agility.
Fuel economy for the 2017 Nissan Rogue SL Hybrid AWD is an EPA estimated 31 mpg city and 34 mpg highway**.
2017 Nissan Rogue SL Hybrid AWD Safety
One of the best things about the 2017 Rogue is that it comes standard with numerous safety and security features. Advanced safety technology like blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, and a 360-degree Around View monitor are offered at no additional cost.
Other important safety features include an advanced airbag system, vehicle dynamic control, traction control, hill start assist, brake assist, and electronic brake force distribution.
Forward emergency braking came with our test model as part of the available SL HEV Premium Package.
