Nissan’s flagship “super sports car” has been wowing people since its debut in 2007, and this latest update takes the GT-R to new heights with fresh visuals, more power, and improved comfort.
Through focused design and the utmost attention to details, the GT-R continues to evolve and mature, keeping it relevant and competitive despite its longer-than-average life cycle.
Let’s take a closer look at how years of refinement and listening to customer feedback have made the 2017 Nissan GT-R the ultimate vehicle that combines both performance and usability.
2017 Nissan GT-R Premium Exterior
The 2017 model year brings about significant exterior updates for the Nissan GT-R, adding both exciting styling and aerodynamic performance.
A new and wider “V-motion” grille allows more airflow for engine cooling, and catches your eye with a matte chrome finish and updated mesh pattern. Helping the GT-R generate plenty of downforce is a redesigned front spoiler lip along with a contoured front bumper which directs air over the reinforced hood.
Following the GT-R’s signature front fender vents, you’ll find reshaped side sills that reduce aerodynamic lift and keep the air moving towards functional rear vents on either side of the quad exhaust tips. A body-colored spoiler and new styling cues round out the rear of the car while also maintaining a 0.26 drag coefficient for high-speed stability.
Our test model came in a premium paint color called Super Silver, and also featured RAYS 20-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped in Dunlop high-performance run-flat tires.
The new bodywork and aerodynamic enhancements give the 2017 GT-R an aggressive, racecar-inspired look that definitely stands out on the road.
2017 Nissan GT-R Premium Interior
The 2017 GT-R features a brand new interior with premium materials and carbon fiber accents. Taking elegance to a new level, the redesigned dashboard is wrapped in a single piece of hand-selected Nappa leather that’s been precisely stitched to complement the driver-focused cabin.
At the center of the dash is a new 8-inch color touchscreen display which functions as your portal to entertainment, navigation, phone connectivity, and more. NissanConnect brings all of these features together for easy access and distraction-free driving, allowing you to control your experience via voice commands, multi-touch gestures, or the Display Command controller mounted on the carbon-fiber center console. Apple CarPlay is also supported for expanded connectivity options.
Pressing the “Function” button transforms the 8-inch screen into a customizable multi-function display that tracks vehicle stats like G-force, oil temperature, boost pressure, torque split, and more. It’s a convenient way to monitor the vehicle’s health while enjoying a track day or a spirited run through some backroads.
Our test model came optioned with the Premium Interior Package which adds Red Amber semi-aniline leather throughout the interior as well as on the seats — the end result is a sporty and ultra-luxurious look and feel.
Other notable interior features include heated and power-adjustable front seats, an 11 speaker BOSE premium audio system, and USB connection ports.
2017 Nissan GT-R Premium Performance
The 2017 GT-R backs up its race car looks with actual race car performance courtesy a hand-built 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that pumps out 565 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant truly is a work of art — a single master technician assembles the engine to the most detailed specifications.
A dual-clutch 6-speed manual transmission handles the delivery of power from the engine to the ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive (AWD) system, which operates in rear-wheel drive until more grip is needed, giving the GT-R characteristic sports car handling with incredible cornering abilities.
The suspension and Bilstein Damptronic shock absorbers have been refined to provide a more compliant experience while maintaining precise feedback from the road, and can be adjusted to a stiffer or softer setting on-the-fly. Transmission programming and traction control can also be customized for comfort, normal use, or maximum performance.
At full throttle, the 2017 GT-R sounds like a jet plane as the turbochargers deliver maximum boost alongside the high revs of the 3.8-liter V6 — it’s a glorious song made even better by the titanium
Piloting the GT-R is effortless, exhilarating, and flat-out fun! You’ll experience g-forces and seemingly endless amounts of grip that will leave you wondering what kind of magic Nissan used to deliver so much performance and still maintain daily usability and comfort.
Fuel economy for the 2017 Nissan GT-R Premium is an EPA estimated 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway**.
