2017 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL Sedan Test Drive Review

A practical car doesn’t have to be boring nor bare, and Nissan has the perfect example to prove this point with its 2017 Altima 2.5 SL.

This mid-size sedan is pushing the boundaries of the traditional car, offering an abundance of luxury, convenience, and comfort features typically reserved for much more expensive vehicles.

Come explore everything the Altima has to offer with a closer look at our 2017 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL test model.

2017 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL Sedan Exterior

The 2017 Altima carries an elegant and youthful appearance thanks to its new exterior, which features Nissan’s signature “energetic flow” design language.

Angular features in the front fascia give way to a dynamic character line that passes over deep fenders, and complements the sloping roofline. These contours are bolstered by the Altima’s wide stance and small wheel opening gaps to deliver athletic and upscale proportions.

An acoustic glass windshield is standard on all models, as well as a large black-painted grille with chrome surround. Our Altima 2.5 SL test model came painted in a vivid Storm Blue color, accented with chrome door handles, chrome dual exhaust tips, and 17-inch machined aluminum-alloy wheels.

Other exterior features include auto on/off LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, and heated outside mirrors with LED turn indicators.

2017 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL Sedan Interior

On the inside, the 2017 Altima offers impressive comfort and value with premium materials and thoughtful design.

Our test model’s beige interior came standard with leather-appointed Zero Gravity front seats along with Brushed Silver Wave trim and an abundance of soft-touch materials — the result is a premium and luxurious environment that helps the Altima stand out from the crowded mid-size sedan category.

At the center console, the standard 5-inch color audio display is upgraded by the optional Technology Package to a 7-inch touch-screen with NissanConnect, a service that provides navigation, mobile apps, and more.

This infotainment hub is vibrant, intuitive, and very responsive, and can also be controlled by voice commands or steering wheel-mounted controls. Apple iPhone users can take advantage of the standard Siri Eyes Free functionality for enhanced connectivity options.

With comfortable seating for five adults, a large trunk, and a 60/40 split folding rear bench seat, the 2017 Altima has the capability and versatility to satisfy the demands of a variety of individuals or families.

Additional interior highlights include an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, BOSE premium audio system, in-dash Advanced Drive-Assist display, and dual zone automatic climate control. Our test model also came with an optional power sliding moonroof.

2017 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL Sedan Performance

The heart and soul of the 2017 Altima is a peppy and capable 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque.

Don’t let the numbers fool you, though — with the standard Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), it feels like there’s a much larger engine under the hood whenever you step on the gas pedal. This intelligent and fuel efficient transmission system helps keep the engine in its optimum torque range, delivering confident acceleration and effortless cruising.

4-wheel independent suspension gives the 2017 Altima a comfortable and sporty feel while maintaining nimble handling characteristics.

Active Understeer Control is also standard on all 2017 Altima trim levels for added stability when cornering.

Fuel economy for the 2017 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL is an EPA estimated 27 mpg city and 39 mpg highway**.
