2017 Mercedes-Benz Metris Passenger Van Exterior

It only takes one glance at the Mercedes-Benz Metris to be convinced that it’s up for any task. Its large stature — 6 feet tall by 6 feet wide and almost 17 feet long — means there’s plenty of room inside to haul both cargo and people.

At the front, you’ll find a familiar Mercedes-Benz grille with a prominent silver arrow logo. A chiseled fascia leads to contoured lines that sweep back along the van for a look that’s classy, rugged, and refined.

Power sliding rear passenger doors open with the touch of a button and create a wide opening to allow easy access to the second and third rows of seating. The cargo area is accessible via a large rear liftgate, and the low step-in height facilitates easy loading and unloading.

And while the Metris may look like a handful from the outside, it’s been designed to easily fit into residential garages and has no problems maneuvering through tight city streets or low parking structures.

Black tinting (80%) comes standard for the rear windows, and our test model came equipped with the Premium Exterior Package which includes body color-matching bumpers, roof rails, and 20-spoke lightweight alloy wheels.

Many will agree that the overall look of the Mercedes-Benz Metris feels like it’s perfectly suited for VIP or executive transport.

2017 Mercedes-Benz Metris Passenger Van Interior

Even though the Metris van is meant to be an everyday workhorse, Mercedes-Benz still loaded the interior with the same premium materials and high-quality craftsmanship that we’ve come to expect from their luxury passenger cars.

Every seat in our test model came wrapped in black leatherette, which is both durable and easy to clean, and the front seats featured a unique “comfort” design along with lumbar support as part of the available Driver Comfort Package.

Calling the interior “spacious” would be an understatement as the Metris boasts 97.3 cu. ft. of cargo volume behind the second row of seating (with third row removed). Keep in mind that the second row can be removed as well for maximum cargo capacity.

Other interior features include a 5.8-inch color screen infotainment system, USB media connections, Bluetooth connectivity, GPS navigation, and heat-insulating glass.

2017 Mercedes-Benz Metris Passenger Van Performance

Under the hood of every Metris passenger van is an efficient and capable 2-liter turbocharged engine that produces 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth acceleration along with efficient highway cruising — more spirited drivers can take control of gear shifts via the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Engine response is quick and confident from both a standstill and at speed, and the power steering has been adjusted to minimize driver fatigue on long trips.

One might think that piloting the Metris would be a chore in densely-populated cities, but the van’s excellent visibility and best-in-class turning radius help it maneuver through even the most congested areas with ease — we never made a three-point turn during our entire experience with the test model.

Fuel economy in the 2017 Mercedes-Benz Metris passenger van is an EPA-estimated 20 mpg city and 23 mpg highway**.

2017 Mercedes-Benz Metris Passenger Van Safety

The 2017 Metris comes standard with a variety of safety features like hill start assist, window airbags for all rows, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers, and more.

When traveling between cities or through rural areas, the standard Crosswind Assist feature automatically applies individual brakes to keep the van from being pushed into another lane by strong winds.

And knowing that the Metris may be used for long hauls, Mercedes-Benz has included Attention Assist as a standard function. The vehicle monitors driving patterns and helps prevent drowsy driving by reminding you to take a break.

Our test model also came equipped with a rear view camera, active parking assist, collision prevention assist, blind spot assist, and lane depature warning.
