Few vehicles on the road have a presence like the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT.

Its new, signature front fascia, grille and fog light encasings are accented in black and hint at the power that lies under the hood. Out test model’s 20-inch lightweight forged wheels and Velvet Red Pearl paint complement the new elements for a stealthy and athletic overall look.

The Grand Cherokee’s wide stance and high ground clearance make quick work of rough terrain, with a 29.8 degree approach angle that can be increased to 36.1 degrees when the lower front fascia is removed. Breakover angle is 27.1 degrees and departure angle is 22.8 degrees, helping this SUV excel at severe off-roading adventures.

In addition to strong character lines and an SRT-exclusive black sill with platinum chrome, the exterior also features bi-xenon HID headlamps, LED fog lamps, a power rear liftgate, and LED tail lamps. Rain sensing windshield wipers and headlamp washers help keep things clear during inclement weather.

The 2017 model year brings about an even more luxurious and hand-crafted leather interior for the Grand Cherokee, and SRT logos throughout the cabin combined with silver anodized accents add a bespoke feel.

In the front, driver and passenger are treated to 8-way power seats with memory, while rear passengers enjoy heated seats and an available dual screen Blu-Ray/DVD system.

At the center of the leather-wrapped dashboard sits the award-winning 8.4-inch UConnect infotainment system. GPS navigation comes standard with the SRT model as well as SiriusXM satellite radio, traffic service, bluetooth connectivity, and a whole host of UConnect apps.

Accessing the UConnect system is quick and easy via the large touchscreen, and most audio entertainment options can be adjusted using shortcut buttons on the SRT-branded steering wheel.

Our test model came equipped with the optional dual-pane panoramic sunroof and SRT high performance audio package, which includes 19 Harman Kardon speakers with subwoofer and 825-watt amplifier. The sunroof package also adds a suede-like premium headliner for an ultra-luxurious look and feel.

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Performance

Powering this full-size SUV is a potent 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that produces 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration is incredibly quick thanks to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission that’s always in the proper gear to deliver the most efficient performance.

And while the SRT model gives you access to extra horsepower, it doesn’t compromise its off-road heritage. The 2017 Grand Cherokee features Quadra-Trac on-demand 4WD, active damping suspension, and an electronic rear limited-slip differential.

The Selec-Track system allows you to adjust the vehicle’s driving characteristics to match your current situation, whether it be the highway, a dragstrip, or dirt trail. Seven pre-programmed modes change the Grand Cherokee’s suspension, torque distribution, shift schedule, stability control, and engine mapping. Those wanting an even more tailored experience can use the Custom mode to manually set each performance aspect of the vehicle.

Driving the Grand Cherokee SRT is extremely rewarding — a lowered ride height and stiffer spring rates deliver a nimble and sporty feel when navigating tight corners, and the available horsepower means you can get out of sticky situations in a hurry. The vehicle’s seating position and excellent all-around visibility also help inspire confidence when traveling through congested areas.

Our test model came equipped with optional high performance brakes as well as the Trailer Tow Group which adds a Class IV receiver hitch and a 7- and 4-pin wiring harness.

Fuel economy for the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is an EPA-estimated 13 mpg city and 19 mpg highway**.

The 2017 Grand Cherokee SRT comes loaded with various active and passive safety features including advanced multistage front airbags, lane departure warning, full-speed forward collision warning, advanced brake assist, and adaptive cruise control.

The side view mirrors deliver blind spot warnings with audible cues, and a rear back-up camera paired with cross path detection helps you safely maneuver through driveways and parking lots.

The 2017 model also comes standard with parallel and perpendicular park assist, where all you need to do is manage the vehicle’s forward and reverse speeds — the electronic power-steering automatically places the Grand Cherokee precisely into suitable parking spaces.
