This mid-size luxury sedan offers sports car-like capabilities along with some of the latest in driver assistance technology.
Learn more about the refinement and innovation that is distinctly Jaguar with a closer look at our 2017 XF 20d AWD R-Sport test model.
2017 Jaguar XF 20d AWD R-Sport Exterior
The 2017 Jaguar XF offers a broad appeal with its confident presence, soft curves, and thoughtful design. Its character lines and details hint at the capability and exclusivity of the car without drawing too much unwanted attention.
At the front, the XF’s signature grille and roaring Jaguar emblem make a bold statement as the point of origin for the aluminum hood’s flowing creases and power bulge. The more vertical front fascia features large vents, a shorter overhang, and adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams.
As you make your way back along the one-piece aluminum body panels, you’ll see a coupe-like profile that emphasizes both the car’s sportiness and executive status. This one-piece manufacturing process contributes to the car’s structural stiffness and also eliminates visible joints. LED taillights, a powered trunk, and dual chrome exhaust tips round out the overall look of the XF.
Our test model came painted in a sophisticated Ammonite Grey color — one of 19 available colors — and rolled on a set of 19-inch 5-spoke gloss grey diamond turned wheels.
With its balanced proportions and elegant the design, the 2017 XF is sure to turn heads wherever you go.
2017 Jaguar XF 20d AWD R-Sport Interior
The interior of the 2017 XF welcomes passengers with a variety of premium materials, including gloss veneers and textured aluminum trim, and a layout that is thoughtful and intuitive. This cabin is an example of Jaguar’s design language at its finest.
Once seated in the leather-wrapped 10-way heated front sport seats, our eyes were drawn to the XF’s optional 12.3-inch Virtual Instrument Display, which replaces the traditional instrument cluster. With a customizable graphical interface and four pre-set themes, the vibrant digital display is a portal to the future of luxury motoring, delivering a variety of data as well as full-screen GPS navigation.
Working in conjunction with the Virtual Instrument Display is an available InControl Touch Pro system that features a 10.2-inch touch screen. Situated in the center console, this infotainment hub provides access to satellite radio, navigation, vehicles settings, connectivity apps, and more. The multi-touch display allows you to operate the system with gestures, just like on a smartphone, and also offers intelligent voice recognition so you can keep your attention on the road ahead.
In addition to a standard moonroof and heated steering wheel, our test model also included optional comfort and technology packages, adding climate front and heated rear seats, a Meridian 825-watt surround sound system, and InControl WiFi.
2017 Jaguar XF 20d AWD R-Sport Performance
The 20d designation means that under the XF’s power-bulge hood lies a 180 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that propels the car like a much larger powerplant thanks to its ability to achieve 318 lb-ft of peak torque at 2,500 rpm.
The standard 8-speed automatic transmission and Instinctive All Wheel Drive system help the 2017 XF deliver a capable and engaging driving experience. Handling characteristics are enhanced by the vehicle’s lightweight aluminum structure, which is also responsible for a near perfect weight balance.
Piloting the XF is effortless as the Adaptive Dynamics make sure the car is always in its best form, automatically adjusting to road conditions and your driving style — the electronically controlled dampers optimize the suspension response for a blend of comfort and performance. And when you feel the need for some spirited driving, the configurable Dynamic drive mode can be activated to sharpen throttle response, apply a more aggressive transmission profile, and increase steering weight.
Our test model also came standard with Intelligent Start-Stop, contributing to the XF’s impressive fuel economy, which is an EPA estimated 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway**.
2017 Jaguar XF 20d AWD R-Sport Safety
The 2017 XF comes loaded with a variety of active, passive, and structural technologies to create as safe an environment as possible for all passengers.
Advanced front, side, and side curtain airbags are standard, as well as seat belt pretensioners and LATCH restraint anchor points.
A rear camera with blind spot monitoring helps you navigate narrow driveways or parking spaces, while advanced systems like lane departure warning and autonomous emergency braking minimize chances of a collision.
Our test model also came equipped with an intelligent speed limiter which lessens the workload of maintaining a constant speed, reducing driver fatigue.
