2017 INFINITI QX60 3.5 AWD Test Drive Review

Three-row luxury crossovers don’t have to come at a hefty price tag and INFINITI continues to prove that over and over again with the QX60 crossover. The model has been a staple in the INFINITI lineup and has a couple of new additions in the 2016 model along with other additions in the 2017 model year.

The INFINITI QX60 is basically the brand’s version of the Nissan Pathfinder that gets all the luxury appointments that you have come to expect from the brand. Leather upholstery, a smooth buttery ride, and a bunch of advanced technology options keep this luxury crossover on the top of new car shoppers that are looking for the perfect family hauler.

Exterior:

Design-wise not much has changed from the 2016 INFINITI QX60. The refreshed exterior is highlighted by a new front end that looks more luxurious and bolder. Front end changes include a new updated double-arch grille, redesigned headlamps, and new fog lamps that feature LED lighting and chrome touches. The rear end has also been slightly updated with a new design to the taillights and new chrome finishers around the rear hatch. While this crossover has come a long way from its INFINITI JX days, it still stays true to its overall design language that has grown up just enough to make this even more compelling.

The 2017 INFINITI QX60 sits on a wheelbase that measures 114.2 inches with an overall length of 200.1 inches. The overall width of the 2017 INFINITI QX60 comes in at 77.2 inches while the overall height comes in at 68.6 inches.

In our opinion, the 2017 INFINITI QX60 is one of the best looking three-row luxury crossovers on the market. Instead of going for dramatic and cutting edge design, the INFINITI QX60 opts for a more elegant and luxurious style language.

Interior:

Just like the outside, the interior of the 2017 INFINITI QX60 is all about luxury and elegance. Not much has changed from the previous model year so everything that you know still holds true. The only two new additions for the 2017 INFINITI QX60 are the optional Motion Activated Liftgate and the addition of INFINITI InTouch with 8-inch touch screen color vehicle information display.

The 2017 INFINITI QX60 comes standard with tri-zone climate control, a moonroof, a rearview camera, leather seats, USB connection, Bluetooth connectivity, and more. Our fully loaded test drive model came with the Premium Plus Package which adds navigation, around View monitor with moving object detection, INFINITI InTouch, INFINITI voice recognition system, and more. It also had the Premium Package and the Deluxe Technology Package which adds a 13 speaker Bose sound system, heated seats, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, second and third-row moonroof with power rear sunshade, and much more.

One of the best options in our test drive model was the Theater Package which adds two 8-inch color monitors for multimedia video playback, two wireless headsets, HDMI port, wireless remote. Starting at $2,150 – this might be a must-have for families with a bunch of kids to keep entertained during long drives.

Space-wise, the interior of the 2017 INFINITI QX60 offers 42.3 inches of front legroom, 41.7 inches of second-row legroom, and 30.8 inches of third-row legroom. Cargo volume behind the third row comes in at 15.8 cubic feet.

Performance:

The 2017 INFINITI QX60 gets an upgraded VQ35DD 3.5 liter V6 engine making 250 horsepower with a maximum torque of 243 lb-ft. Mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission, the INFINITI QX60 will go from zero to sixty in 7.1 seconds with a top speed of 120 mph.

Of course, this isn’t a fast sports car but the Drive Mode Selector will help you get a little more out of your driving preference with four different driving modes including Standard, Sport, Snow or Eco.

Front wheel drive with the 2017 INFINITI QX60 is standard and all-wheel-drive is optional. Estimated EPA-rated fuel economy comes in at 21/27 mpg* (city/highway).

Overall, the drive of the 2017 INFINITI QX60 is extremely smooth and comfortable. The power is there when you need quick acceleration, however, this is the perfect three-row crossover for those long weekend trips.

Safety:

Besides the long list of standard safety features the 2017 INFINITI QX60 comes standard with a rearview camera. Also, depending on the packages you pick, you will get a range of driver assist technologies ranging from the Around View Monitor system, front and rear sonar system, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning/intervention, backup collision intervention, distance control assist, automatic braking, lane departure warning, forward emergency braking, high-beam assist, and much more.

Overall:

There will be many that say that the INFINITI QX60 doesn’t offer all the bells and whistles and badges and gizmos its competitors do, however, when you’re a driver in a car with 6 other passengers, we don’t really think you’ll have all the time to play with all those features. The 2017 INFINITI QX60 does a perfect job of being a luxurious and comfortable family three-row crossover with prices starting at just $43,100**.
