Toyota recently announced that it will be removing the Scion brand and rebadging some of its most popular vehicles under the Toyota brand. One of the most popular and sporty models from Scion is the FR-S, a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that Toyota co-built with Subaru.
Since the Scion FR-S will now all but disappear, Toyota has decided to rebadge the model as it is known in other international markets – the Toyota 86. The 2017 Toyota 86 will hit markets later this fall and will be powered by a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine that now produces 205 horsepower, five more than the outgoing model.
Toyota confirmed that two other Scion models will be joining the Toyota brand for 2017 – including the Toyota Corolla iM and Toyota Yaris iA.
Reports suggest that Toyota and Subaru are currently working on the second-generation version of their rear-wheel-drive sports cars and we’re very excited to see where the future for this model is headed. Stay tuned for more details.
