2016 FIAT 500L Trekking Exterior

The 2016 FIAT 500L Trekking takes the popular design and iconic DNA of the FIAT 500 and adds two more doors to create comfortable seating for five adults. Unique vehicle design helps the 500L keep its adorable proportions while having the footprint of a compact wagon.

The popular FIAT front face makes the checklist with bi-function halogen projector headlamps, high beam daytime running headlamps, and a chrome-winged FIAT logo.

Blacked-out side pillars give the illusion of a floating roof on the 500L, which can be ordered in a matching body color, white, or black. Our Blue Tornado test model looked especially chic with a Bianco (white) roof.

A protective black molding runs from the lower front fascia, along the wheel wheels and side sill, and underneath the rear bumper to provide extra protection from road debris or rocks — the 500L Trekking is built for adventure, after all.

Other exterior features include 17-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps, deep tint sunscreen glass, and bright exhaust tips. Our test model came equipped with the Trekking Collection 5 which adds a dual-pane power sunroof.

The FIAT 500L definitely stands out from the crowd with its unique design, vibrant colors, and fun personality.

2016 FIAT 500L Trekking Interior

Inside the 500L is an exceptionally spacious interior thanks to “small-wide” architecture and a cab forward design which provides plenty of head and shoulder room, and also rear cargo space.

Soft-touch materials and easy-to-clean surfaces are found throughout the cabin, along with a leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Leather-trimmed bucket seats were included on our test model as part of the available Trekking Collection 5 options package.

Also part of the Trekking Collection 5 is the award-winning UConnect infotainment system. Its 6.5-inch color touch screen gives you access to satellite radio, navigation, phone, and a number of entertainment apps.

In terms of storage, the rear 60/40 split seats can tilt, tumble, and slide to provide more rear cargo room while a multi-position shelf panel helps you utilize vertical space.

Our test model came equipped with additional comfort and entertainment options including heated front seats, automatic dual-zone temperature control, and Beats premium audio system.

2016 FIAT 500L Trekking Performance

As pretty as the 500L is, it’s not just about looks. Under the hood of the 2016 Trekking model is a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbocharged engine that produces 160 horsepower and 184 lb. ft. of torque. This peppy and efficient motor can be paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission for some engaging driving dynamics.

Riding in the 500L is a comfortable and smooth experience thanks to Koni frequency selective damping (FSD) front strut and rear shock absorbers which actively filter out vibrations from uneven road surfaces. Special shock absorber mounts also help to dissipate road vibrations for an improved acoustic experience.

While the Koni FSD adjusts for comfort and optimum ride control, a MacPherson front suspension setup and a specially-designed front cross member give the 500L improved rigidity for better cornering performance and weight transfer.

The 500L Trekking is a fun city-fighter with the capability to excel in a variety of environments and situations, including ones where the roads might not be paved.

Fuel efficiency for the 2016 FIAT 500L Trekking is an EPA estimated 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway**.
